Buying a used wheel for 06 IS350 question.
Hi All,
I'm looking for stock used wheel 8x18 for my 06 IS350 on ebay. I saw one i like.
But the description said: The wheel has been spun and has a 1/16 play. What's that mean? Is mean the wheel is good? No up and down too much?
I'd like to ask guys expert about that before I buy it.
Thank you for your info, very appreciated.
Eric

www.car-parts.com might be a good source since most wrecking yards will take it back if it is not good and won't balance nicely.
Edit: I see they have used spun as meaning balanced and it is 1/16th off. I was referring to it in the following way.Spun-Rim, Flow-Forming or Rim-Rolling Technology
This specialized process begins with a low pressure type of casting and uses a special machine that spins the initial casting, heats the outer portion of the casting and then uses steel rollers pressed against the rim area to pull the rim to its final width and shape. The combination of the heat, pressure and spinning create a rim area with the strength similar to a forged wheel without the high cost of the forging. Some of the special wheels produced for the O.E.M. high performance or limited production vehicles utilize this type of technology resulting in a light and strong wheel at a reasonable cost. O.Z. has used this technology for several years in their production of racing wheels for Formula One and Indy cars. O.Z.'s Formula HLT wheel for the aftermarket is an example of a wheel produced using spun-rim technology.

Hindsight makes me think they verify the trueness and found one or both of the beads have some sort of variance.
Either a wobble, eccentric, bent bead from a pot hole or ????
FWIW on previous car w aftermarket 9" wide wheels, I bent the inner bead and with -2.25 negative camber you could feel that bend. It was hardly obvious when spun but something like 1/16" deviation. On a straight axle where the camber is zero can go unnoticed.
