Default Roof Spoiler

Hey guys,

So I was going to install my roof spoiler/lip, and while doing so I saw 3 little boxes embedded inside the rear windshield on the top right where the glass meets the body.

What is the purpose of these boxes? Do they need direct sunlight? In other words will installing the lip over them have any effect?

Thanks

Those are for the rear window defroster/defogger and I believe the FM antenna.

They look to be the solder points for the RW Defogger. Is the inside covered by anything and if not can you post a photo of the back side?

Those are contact points for the defroster and FM radio antenna built into the glass. If you pull back the headliner you'll be able to see the modules that contact those little squares. Sometimes people tint right over them and it ruins signal and/or operation of the rear window defroster. I wouldn't worry about installing the roof spoiler, you aren't interrupting the signal for the antenna through the contacts at all.

Ok thanks! I was going to get tints professionally done soon. Is this something I should emphasize or do the guys typically know to avoid this area?

I'm sure most know to avoid it but I'd ask them about it to remind them just in case. Some tint guys cut the tint bigger than it needs to be and shove it in place and thats when stuff goes downhill.
