Rubber strip on Chrome window trim repair
Rubber strip on window trim
I am sure that some or most of you have seen your rubber strip covering the exterior chrome trim on your windows lift.
If you are one of them, I have found a good technique to glue them back in a few months ago and it did not last and it was messy and looked bad.
I did some repair on all of them (4) as some lifted halfway. Lexus used some type of glue and in time, lost the adhesion. I used the cheap contact adhesive the last time and they have started to lift again. I had a hard time doing this repair, making it look professional grade.
You will need some scotch tape and Gorilla Glue and a small brush (can be bought from hobby lobby, etc, I will post pics of what I used.
Steps:
1. Clean the surfaces, both the stainless steel trim and underneath the rubber trim. Use alcohol and cotton tips.
2. Apply a thin amount of the glue to the stainless steel side, be careful not to over apply.
3. Wipe the underside of the rubber trim with damp cloth (as the Gorilla glue needs some moisture to activate).
4. Carefully fold the rubber trim down by taping the entire strip with scotch tape.
5. Wait for 2 hours at least.
6. Peel off the tape carefully and use a downward stroke so as not to peel the rubber.
7. Clean up as needed.
8. Enjoy your trim.
