Can Is250 2006 A960E use BRZ FRS Transmission 2013+
Apparently the 2006 IS250 uses a A960E as does the BRZ FRS 2013+
Would one be able to use a FRS Transmission in a 2006 IS250?
The only thing I notice is the Transmission Cooler is different or non existant on the FRS. Buy maybe you can just take the old one and attach it to the new transmission
Also Does anyone know of any other issues that can arrise from such swap? Such as Gear Ratios, Electronics not working or???
The price on the BRZ is far less than the is250 and with less miles.
The market is riddled with AWD transmissions but I need a RWD. Already swaped out the solenoids with originals TCC and SLU without luck so i might need a new tranny..
Or does anyone else have a is250 transmission compatibility chart?
I know the Gs300 06 uses the same
I think the 06 to 13 or maybe the 06 to 15 may also use same trans?
Interesting, didn't know this. But I've not read of any posts on here about this specific swap. So if you go through with it, you'd be the first to post about it.
If ones uses wikipedia and just reads on stuff you will find the information. I think the FRS BRZ has different ratios? I am no transmission expert but have tried to swap out some solenoids to my dismay. I really wanna fix my transmission but at the rate im going it would be cheaper just to get a used or rebuilt one. If you look at the two they are exactly the same looking minus the sensor colors are green with the subaru scions. THey are so much cheaper too like 600 to 900 for less than 25K Vs 900 to 1300 for a lexus RWD with over 100K miles.
Im not trying to make any money on this I just want a working car.
Wish I was a transmission specialist right now. I have So many questions. Fitment is one issue but getting it to cooperate with the ECU and ect is another issue
I just finished my transmission swap on Monday. Did it by myself in a 2-car garage. Bought my transmission from car-part.com and the transmission was only $650 plus $150 shipping to the Bay Area in California. It was off a 2012 is250 with 45,000 miles. I'm telling you cheap transmissions are out there. In total I spent about $1,000 on the transmission, the fluid, and the filter and pan gasket. Good luck!! Get an alldatadiy subscription it will help A LOT. Only $26 or so for the year for all the info you could want on your car, including repair instructions. Good luck brother!
What you can do is go to "toyo diy dot com" and other sites that do a Where Used on parts.
What you are looking for changes in part numbers that effect you.
For example pull up your upper level transmission PN, and grab the sub components below that. No do a where used an get the case PN, output shaft PN, Torque Converter PN etc etc etc and see if these are the same number on the item you want.
Keeping in mind that although the name of the transmission is the same, things like bolt patterns, torque converter (TC) stall speed, stuff like that could be different. But if they are the same PN, it will make you feel better.
Coming from a transmission back ground I can almost bet you the TC is very different as the engine torque curve and vehicle weight are very different. But maybe the rest of the trans will work and you opt for a rebuilt TC.
As test, pick our rear half shafts. They interchange throughout all 2IS even the Is-f. Look it up. Same where used PN....
The engine won't bolt up the transmission. That's a problem! Not much need for a starter... Again, the torque curve of these engines is very different. I can assure you the TC is not interchangeable even if it physically bolts up which it probably does not!
Are you referring to an automatic? I'm speaking of manual transmission. Tomorrow I'm picking up a 107k mile FR-S tenas for $160. Ill let you know with a side by side comparison.... Or maybe not since pioneers around here get crucified haha

And at the end of the day, you spend a ton of money to bolt a transmission designed and geared for a high-revving 4 four cylinder to a mid-range-torque-focused V6, for likely more than you'd spend to just use the proper transmission in the first place.
