Default 2008 IS350 high pitch whining

Hello CL

I just started noticing a high pitch whine/hiss/whistle that varies with engine RPM on my car. I think it is more noticeable when the engine is cold. It almost sounds like a jet engine spinning up when I am accelerating or slowing down when I am letting off the gas pedal. It is most obvious when I am slowing down in 4th or 3rd gear without using brake.

Has anyone else experienced this before? Is this a vacuum or exhaust leak or something else?

Thanks

The only time I've experienced that is when I have my phone plugged into the AUX outlet. I got a noise reducer off Amazon and it fixed the problem.

Does your noise vary with engine rpm when you had it?
I am surprised the audio system would be affected by engine rpm lol

Would u mind showing me what that noise reducer is?

He is referring to the ground loop issue detailed in TSIB AU001-07, which is solved by installing a ground loop filter (actually an isolation transformer) in the line between the aux port and the radio. The TSIB shows how to do this with Lexus parts (more specifically part # 86516–33020), though others on the forum have solved the issue with an outboard filter, like the PAC SNI-1/3.5 sold on Amazon and elsewhere.

The filter added by the TSIB was added to production for the 2008 model year, so your car should already have it, and thus not be affected by this problem.

Do you have the Turbo model? It might be your Turbo. Have you checked it?

Opened the hood to see if you can isolate what area the noise is coming from?

My guess. Maybe you're hearing the whine of bearing going bad in a pulley, alternator, tensioner, water pump.

Yeah it varied with engine RPM. This is the one I got off Amazon.

Certainly helped get rid of the noise! I could listen to the radio just fine but any time I plugged my phone into the aux or my bluetooth into the aux port, it would make that noise.

I'm assuming the noise has nothing to do with the audio system here. But when I first started to hear a chirping coming from my engine when cold at lower rpms, it ended up being the accessory belt.

Yeah could be the source of a bearing going out or the belt going out. I always like to start with the easy stuff first

thanks for the help everyone.
As much as I cannot believe, it is indeed the audio. When I hit the power button in the middle of the whine, it goes away completely.
Now since it is nothing wrong mechanical, I am going to keep this cool noise LOL
