Guys,

Have any of you ever replaced the transmission pan gasket? My dealership just told me that fluid is leaking and the gasket needs to be replaced. They are charging 550 dollars for the job. Is this a fair estimate? If you have some insight, please let me know what you think.

By the way, I own a 2007 IS 250.

I paid 500 for that job. Also a good time to swap clutch and flywheel if you have a manual

I replaced the auto trans pan gasket when doing my DIY trickle flush. Noticed it was slightly seeping out on the front-end (end closest to the engine) and figured I'd go ahead and do it since I'm already removing the trans fluid from the pan to do the flush. Was CAKE! The gasket is a composite gasket and does not require any sealant.

I did on mine as well, While you were there, changed the transmission fluid filter as well. Cost under $40 at dealer!!!!

Buy the parts for like $50 and do it yourself. Pretty straightforward, drain 1.7 quarts of transmission oil. Then added same amount.

I did it yesterday, very easy diy.
Buy the gasket
lift the car
Open the refill hole FROM THE DRIVERSIDE (2 10mm bolts for the cover and 1 24mm bolt stamped with WS)
drain the fluid trough the drain bolt
close the drain bolt
remove all the bolts of the pan (around 15 bolts)
remove the pan

clean it from the inside, include the little magnets,
remove the gasket with your hand or scrapper
put the new gasket in the correct side (you can see some rectangle in the gasket tells you the correct way)
my advise- if you hace arrived so far, so replace also the filter inside, costs about 40$ and worth it. It has only 4 bolts. Remove those 4 bolts and pull the filter out. Attention, you need to see that the little o-ring on the filter also went out.
Put the new filter in with its o-ring and the 4 bolts.

put the pan+new gasket back to the transmission and close all the surrounding bolts, dont close them too hard.

Now, you need to fill the same amount of new atf WS + 0.4 liter to the transmission through the refill bolt, you can connect some hose from top of the engine and refill from there (we dont have a dipstick hole to fill from there.

Now close the 24mm and torque it to 39Nm and close the cover with the 2 -10 mm bolts.
Now start the car and put the shift from p-r-n-d-s-all the + - shift and back to p. 1.5 seconds on each one. Repeat it twice.

Now worm the car a little to 46c, and then, with the engine on- open the level bolt under the pan and let the over fluid to go out. When its barely stop, clise it to 20Nm.

Thats it, about 1 hour job.

the manual says 2.8 quarts on a drain and flush. not sure if this is including the initial overflow drain? what is the actual oil capacity ? the manual of course doesn't say anything about this

I replaced my gasket and filter when I changed my transmission fluid the second time. Not difficult, but time consuming.
