Default MPG issue

Hi guys new to the forums, i bought a used 2010 Lexus IS250 awd in Canada, now i have been driving it for a while and the MPG is funny. Can someone help me, when I filled up for the second time i used up 75% of the tank and got 180 miles on 12.46 gallons of gas. Ive read many other posts on this website and have seen that people get MUCH better mileage. Im basically missing about a 100 miles off a tank. Can someone tell me where i can start to fix this issue.

I live in a town outside of Toronto, its not all break and stop its about 80% city and 20% highway.

Thank you!

According to my calculation, that's only 14.45 MPG, which I agree is terrible. Did you do a lot of short trips? The combination of short trips (where the car barely has a chance to warm up) and cold weather really takes its toll on fuel economy.

Thanks for your reply and yes many short trips and weather is cold here lol, so for a better MPG, I should drive further ? and will see it improve in the summer months ? furthermore, if i were to replace spark plugs, air filter and engine oil would that help also? because i haven't done so since i got the car about a week ago.

80% city is quite a bit of stop and go. I hope you're not driving with ETC POWER on haha.
If you can, try gradually accelerating off of red lights and stop signs.

I also have a 2010 AWD. I'm averaging about 22MPG 70% short drives, and 30% highway. A/C always on.

yeah no ETC power its always been off, i had it on for max 5 min to see what it can do, but that's about it. It might be my driving style im not too sure, I'll keep in mind to gradually give it power lol. Im just hoping that its not an engine issue

Very strange to see this, and on a 250 nonetheless. I usually tend to get ~20 - 24 combined (80% city / 20% highway) and I don't usually rev above 2000 RPM. Unless you're always flooring it (which is understandable, 250s have no power) there might be something with your engine (I'm no expert whatsoever, this is just a hunch). Are you certain you don't have a fuel leak?

Wow that is indeed terrible. I get at least 25 mpg, living in Ottawa,ON with my average trip less than 10-15minutes and I'm not the slowest driver either. Are you using manual mode? I can only imagine fuel economy that bad if you were just chilling above 4k/5k rpm all day.

no not at all i keep it below 2k rpm and go above 2k or 3k when getting off red lights sometimes.

I'm not certain as to how to tell, but I saw this post on a recall:

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...nsor-leak.html

I've also seen leaks from bolts near the suspension where you install the sway bars. Something else to possibly look at. Keep in mind I'm no expert. Have you gotten your car inspected? Any error codes?

Generally, tires with low rolling resistance tend to squeeze out slightly more mpg. Proper alignment would also help. Not exactly sure how width affects that.

Also, make sure your tire pressures are set to the factory specified PSI's shown on the driver door - should be 35 front and 37 rear.
