You can take a look at your new ECU, it'll help you figure out how the plugs attach.


(not my picture but one that I saved to use as reference for the install)
the grey one on the right should pull up and all you to pull it off as the plastic pins should slide out through the slits in the lever.
the white one on the left you just need to slide a flat head and pry up the small middle portion and pull it out.
don't be afraid to use a little bit of force as these connectors prob have never been touched since they were installed.



a picture of my old ecu, you can see how corroded some of the pieces are which makes it difficult to remove. You'll see the right one has two black pins on the side of it? That's what I'm referring to when I mean pulling up on it will allow the pins to be free and you can pull off the connector. left side has a small piece in the middle for the the small plastic tab to connect to. as for the large one in the rear I can't remember what it was... I think maybe like the grey connector type that you have to pull up on and away - it has those small side black pins as well - but it was relatively easier.

Who did you end up taking it to, Lexus or Toyota? For funsies, see if you can get a code readout from someone or have someone clear the codes and see if they go away.

that's shady... it shouldn't have thrown any codes just swapping out the steering ecu and calibrating it. Maybe one of the connectors got loose? But I figure it'd only be the power steering light.

Quick Question...It seems most 350 owners who have installed the ISF steering ECU are older gen2 owners, 2006-2008 etc.. I have a 2012 IS350 F-sport w/Cusco Front and rear sway bars as well as Cusco strut bars. My question being that the 2012 IS350 F-sport already has the Lexus Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management System Installed (to the best of my knowledge), therefore, would a 2012 ISF steering ECU change anything in regards to the steering, or is the 2012 IS350 F-Sport already on the same level in regards to the steering ECU. Basically 2012 ISF and 2012 IS350...is there a difference in the ECU or a waste of money by purchasing the ISF version?? Any thoughts much appreciated...

Probably had the battery unplugged and just didn't care. Sometimes the dealer is lazy about doing those little things.

All 350's came with VDIM regardless of year. Not too up to date with the F-Sport's differences, but iirc, the IS-F is still a bit stiffer.

I re-read the old steering ecu thread and with Jeff's car, he didn't have an ECT switch to go from normal to sport/PWR which would significantly decrease the steering assist. I'm assuming that the steering feedback and feel that Jeff noted would be equivalent to the settings when the Steering ECU is on normal mode (and similar to the ISx50 Sport ECU).

Solomaniac, does your steering calibrations change (i.e. firm up) when you go from ECT Normal to PWR?

I've had 3 ECU's in my 2011, the non-sport, the 2011+ sport ECU and the IS F ECU. I do not have an automatic so I do not have ECT.

The difference between the non-sport and sport ECU is smaller than the difference between the sport ECU and the IS F ECU. The IS F ECU is well worth it, even if you already have the sport ECU.

Reviving this old thread. Have 2006 IS350 and original PS ECU died. Happened to see this thread as I was searching for a how-t DIY replace. Ended up ordering new 11-12 (pn 89650-53041) from OEM and installed. Took to dealership for calibration. Dealer says because it's not the correct part, the calibration won't "take". Says they tried more than 5 times, each time calibration "not taking". NO more info than that. So either they can't or wont calibrate my ECU. Any insights?

I bought a used unit and didnt get it recalibrated... so my case may be different than yours. However, did he explain more what he was doing? Seems weird everyone didnt have issues. Was he trying to put the old is350 programming on the new ecu? Or load the proper ISF programming?

Maybe he was confused on what he needed to do.
