Default 2006 IS350 transmission rebuild shops? Socal

My transmission is going out and I want ask any of you guys here in the socal area where you guys got your transmission rebuilt at or where does the dealer source their transmission from. I really do not want to pay the dealer to do it or get the part from them as it will be too expensive. I am located in the Inland Empire are but will be will to drive to pick up a rebuilt transmission or have them install it if the price is not too much.

You better search for used transmission with low mileage

Mine went out within days of buying mine (used, 06, 90K). The dealer that sold it to me sent it to a Toyota store to get it replaced as it was going to be cheaper (?).

Don't waste your time and money rebuilding it. Like whitebeast said just look for a used one with low miles it'll most likely be cheaper anyways.

Like others have mentioned don't go the rebuild route. You'll be lucky to get 2 years out of it before needing another Transmission.

Start your search here www.car-parts.com . It will list what is available.

I thought it would be better to get a rebuilt one, reason being is that if I get a used one then the problem is more likely to happen again sooner right? If it is rebuilt at least it will last just as long if not longer than it has already is what I was thinking. I have done some research and found out that these transmission are not the greatest and fail very often at various mileage. From my research I have found out that it could be the torque converter, one of the three solenoids in the transmission that cost $200 each, or it could be the actual clutches in the transmission. With a rebuilt one it will solve all those issues is what I am thinking. Please explain to me why it would be better to get a used one for cheap oppose to getting a rebuilt transmission? These cars are 10 yrs old now and it is not as easy to find a used transmission with low mileage as well. As of right now my options are still very open to what I should do but after researching I was leaning more towards a rebuilt one.

Also if I get a used transmission what models and what year will work for my car? 2006 IS350 Auto

Well most of rebuilt transmission only comes with 6 months or 1 year warranty and cost you almost 2k. On top of that, most rebuilt shop only replaced current failed or super worm out parts. Lot of used transmission available for purchase on eBay or some other source and labor to replace it won't cost you arm or leg

Was your car produced before 09/05 or after 10/05. If it was before 09/05 you can only buy those transmission, if it's after 10/05 any transmission up until 2013 will work and transmissions from the 3rd gen GS350 will also work.

A rebuilt Transmission typically will never las long because they are never rebuilt well. I have looked up transmissions in your area and their seem to be some really nice ones with 30-60k on them for around $700-$800. You can ask the wrecker which one you need or find out which one based on your VIN (10/05 or 09/05). Before it is installed have the shop that installs it put in new seals, clean it up and basically do a flush on it. The chances of something going wrong with a transmission that has 30k is little to none.

When it comes to engines and transmissions the wrecker should always be your first choice. You can find engines and transmissions that are almost new. You don't have to buy something with 250k on it. You can also negotiate a better price for the transmission. they may want $700 but offer them $550 and see what happens. All they can say is no or maybe they come back at you with $650. You saved a little.

So it looks like you can get a low mileage transmission ready and prepped for about 1k. About 300 - 400 to put it in and you're out the door for under $1500. Just find a good shop that can put it in. Don't go to the dealer unless you have too much money or can't find a shop.

Edit: FlynRyan just put one in his IS. Talk to him.

Had not heard this before; why is this the case? I think my '06 IS350 was manufactured in Sept '05.

Something to do with torque converter being different, but the guy at the local junk yard also mentioned that the transmissions themselves are identical and all you would need to do is swap the torque converters but don't quote me on that because I didn't try myself.

Interesting. I've got to ask my local Lexus service techs about this.
