Default Are cats and manifold one piece on 06 IS350?

This is related to my other post. My car is at 129k miles and I want to get spare cats in case mine go out which they can do and have done on my previous vehicles. New cats are horribly expensive at the Lexus dealer.

I found a Lexus recycling yard in CA that has spare cats--The guy inspected them and they are in good shape--$300 total for left and right cats.

I researched and there are no CA legal aftermarket cats for my car. Lexus dealer cats are $1000 ea f-ck that.

But interesting the guy said the manifolds and cats are one piece--so I have to get both. Anyone know about this??

The IS350 has primary and secondary catalytic converters. The primary cats are incorporated into the exhaust manifolds. Then there are secondary cats within the mid pipe.

Yes, the upstream cats are one piece along with the factory exhaust manifolds.

Thanks for the info. I assume the primaries are the more expensive ones and more likely to go out.

Yes, the primary cats are more expensive considering you will have to replace the manifold as well; however, I wouldn't necessarily say that they are more prone to fail as compared to the secondary cats.

The secondary cats can simply be cut out and new aftermarket units can be welded in their place. Honestly, I wouldn't worry about your cats failing until you start throwing codes. Even then, you may only have an exhaust leak rather than a cat failure, which can easily be fixed by any exhaust shop.

My thoughts exactly. There are a plethora of expensive items that might fail on a 10 years old car (e.g. transmission); don't know why the OP so concerned with the catalytic converters.

I had a customer come in to the auto dealer I work at (AutoNation) he has the exact Lexus I have--the car is having many problems--bad cats are one of them--dealer quoted thousands $$$ to fix--customer said forget it--he is dumping the car. So freaked me out.

But I found a Lexus recycler that is selling me 2 cats and manifolds for $300 as spares. Ive had 2 Toyota trucks and cats went out on both--I was lucky to find cheap aftermarket cats. Lexus cats are factory only.
