^Glad to hear some are having the same results as I am on a '06 IS350 with a "high mileage" motor.

yeah i have a 06 is350 and it has 130k miles on it. i took it to a oil change place because the oil light had come on at around 120k and they couldn't find a problem but that it had barely any oil in it. The car can only hold like 8 quarts of oil? ( correct me if im wrong, idk ) but i know that they put 10 quarts in and it still wasnt reading as full. kind of scary knowing your car burns oil or it magically disappears because there is no white smoke coming from the exhaust. I can smell oil burning when i put the pedal to the floor on every occasion. local mechanic said it needed a full engine rebuild but the manual says it burns oil like this regularly. >.> scary lexus

I also have a 2006 IS250 that is burning oil. I have 132k on it. I burn roughly a quart every 1500-2k miles. I also get a tiny bit of smoke I can see in my rearview and smell under heavy acceleration (especially taking off form an exit ramp on a steep inclined hill). I'm keeping my fingers crossed. As many have suggested the cost of repair (rings or block) exceeds value of the car. Even replacing a motor with a good used one would likely run $3500-$4500, for a car worth $8k on a good day. I figure I'll drive it and add oil until it dies.

My only two glimmers of optimism is:
1. while I have found a multitude of posts about burning oil, I've found only one sketchy post of someone actually having their IS250 engine blow (twice in a row) which sounded suspect, and was not attributed to oil burning issues prior.

2. I owned a Honda that would burn a quart a month and drove it for years like that. Has anyone found reports of actual blown engines? It's a shame because as others have said the car drives amazing, feels good. I've been lucky not to have any of the carbon build-up symptoms either. Like many of you though I wonder what to expect - how fast will it progress? In a year will it burn a quart every 100 miles, should I expect the engine to blow within the next year? I'll happily feed my car a quart of oil each month if I can get a few more years out of her (only do about 10k miles a year).

The oil problem is a definite worry. My BMW didn't have a problem til at least 200k and then I found out that the oil pan and Valve Cover Gasket had a leak. Until then, not a drop was lost. I plan on looking at a 2006 on Saturday, the guy says that it doesn't lose any oil. It has problems, but oil isn't one of them. Being that they have covers over them, I would imagine a lot ends up there. That compression sounds really bad. Shouldn't it be 180-200 psi?

I have a 2006 Lexus IS 350 with about 150,000 miles on it, it seems to be running strong except for the oil burning issue I discovered when it hit about 100,000 miles.

I had a similar situation in the dealership told me it was out of warranty and it would essentially cost about $7K to replace. I may as well maintain it as best I can until I can buy a new car. That's about all I can do. Sucks. I also have the sticky dashboard issue and I am only number 100 on the replacement list at our local dealership after two years. There is a safety issue with the glare ( that I complained to corporate about) so they gave me an ugly fabric dashboard protector which is a horrendous intermediary solution but I'm hoping I get called for my replacement soon. I really think they are trying to time everyone out on this replacement

Did they say what the leak was being caused by, or did they just throw out some asinine number?

As for the dash.. Nah, if you were approved to be on the list, you're getting a replacement. You're on the list for door panels too, right? They can't say "haha, no" once the dash comes in, but, they can say that to people who are past the primary coverage date/secondary coverage (iirc, I believe primary coverage dates end this year to get on with no mileage restriction, and once that ends, secondary coverage is 10 years from first use, which TBH seems redundant. I can't remember if there was a mileage restriction to go along with the 10 years on the secondary coverage)

The technician is one I've been going to for years at the dealership. He is pretty honest and up front. He said they really couldn't be sure unless they did a very expensive diagnostic. He told me my best bet would be to monitor it and put oil in it when it gets low, simply try to maintain it the best I can. It's that or A. buy a new car B. buy a new engine. Eek.

I think I will be receiving the door panels as well but it has taken FOREVER to inch up the list. I likely will be ready to get rid of it by the time I get the replacement. Besides the glare issue though, the doors and dash look terrible with knicks from regular wear and tear.

I though I had it bad, nothing compared to yall. My 08 IS250 burns half of a quart by 3k miles. I just top it off and drive another 2k miles before changing the oil.

Same issue on my '06 IS350 w/ 140k miles. Has only occurred over the past 15k miles. I would get the low oil warning indication and lose about a qt of oil at around 4500 miles after oil change... just close enough til the next scheduled oil change is due. Not too bad of an oil consumption I guess, but still concerning as I'm looking to keep this car for a long time. I hope there'll be a fix for this from Toyota.

My 06 IS350 has 140k miles and burns a quart of oil about every 2000 miles. I just keep oil in the trunk and add as needed. As long as theres no CEL no blue smoke and it passes smog Im ok with it. Lexus dealer says just drive it.

My car consumes oil as well but I my driving consists of high speed freeway driving. Throughout my 5k mile oil changes I tend to add 1q of oil in between. I haven't taken my car to the dealer yet because while reading the owners manual, I found that it was normal for a car to consume 1q of oil every 600miles.

What oil are you using? I've noticed different oil consumption using Mobile 1. About 1/4 quart every 4500 miles. I then switched to Mobile 1 EP. I noticed with this one I was burning much faster maybe 1/2 quart every 1500 -2200 miles. I've now switched to Castrol Edge since this past Saturday. I'll also be monitoring this one. All oils are using 5w-30 car has 66k miles on it AWD 250.

Likewise my IS350 burns oil as well. I add a qt when it hits the minimum line. Or else when I check it and it is low like mid-point, I add until it is full again. I guess just got used to it, have 107K roughly.
