Advice for someone looking to buy a 2nd gen IS in 2016
Hi guys, I'm looking to buy a Lexus IS, specifically the 2nd gen model with AWD (so a 250?).
Does anyone have any advice on common issues with the 2nd gen IS i should look out for, like the melting dash?

Yea I just saw the carbon build up issue. How bad is the build up issue? I was looking at 2006 2008 or 2009 as thats what I see offered around my area in Toronto, ON, Canada.

I can only find 1 350 with awd at the moment in my price range. May just wait it out until another on hits the used market.

I would just stay away from the 250 because I wouldnt wanna have to worry about the carbon build up even being a possibilty. Just get a 350 and be happy lol. Unless you absolutely NEED awd I guess, but even then just get a 350 with awd if your budget allows for it lol. The power difference and just driving experience as a whole is just so much better in the 350. My sister in law has an 06 is250 awd and everytime she drives my car she always compliments how much more lively it feels by comparison. Basically comments along the lines of "Your car is so fast compared to mine, Im so used to my 250 that I had to keep hitting your brakes" or something like that. Plus I get very comparable MPG and paid about the same as what her and my brother paid for the 250.
So to put it simply..
250 = Reliable, good mpg, kinda boring.
350 =More reliable, good mpg, a lot less boring.
Also just as an off topic tip, regardless of what car you choose, do some suspension upgrades. Coilovers, sways, steering ECU etc... they all work together to turn our 2IS into a much more engaging vehicle to drive. Especially when all thats mixed with the fun agressive gearing of an IS350 (and those extra 100 horses) make for a great daily for sure. But good luck with your decision! Theyre both great in the end, Its just that one is better lol.

Get an 09 if its 250. Avoid the 6MT. Clunkiest pos tranny Ive ever driven. Too bad for me I'm stuck with it. RWD is fun, AWD is the realistic option with our winters.
I get 550km per tank in toronto driving 100% city (f the 401 and dvp)
If you are getting a 350 in toronto: good luck finding one that hasnt been beat to shi lol
