They know how to get it done down under! Sooooo much custom work, too long to list; so I'll let the owner's website do the talking.

Yes, not only was this the most documented, custom 2GR-FSE build, but it was installed into a better chassis!

Just spent the past hour reviewing everything; excited to see what other custom builds might in store down the road using our incredible powerplant!

Though it's in the link above, I guess I'll post the dyno vid here PLUS a comment about the direct injection mentioned in YouTube.

"When the car was first built I used the direct injection and port injectors. I had trouble controlling the direct injection rail pressure. This was too hard for me to solve so I just used the port injectors. The direct injectors are still fitted to block the holes in the heads. There is no fuel or wiring going to them."

Looking forward to MORE videos of this beast!

I referenced this build in my IS350 6MT build thread as he used the RA62 in the GT86 as well.

Although I've heard of some issues with leaving the D-4 injectors in place while not using them. Mainly due to heat that is not cooled with fuel flow.

Someone should develop a standalone that can properly control a D-4S system, haha.

I totally missed that post then! HA

That makes sense about the injectors; only time will tell I guess.

Oh, I'm sure there are some out there; just well beyond our budgets! LOL

I'm not sure how I feel about a full standalone for this engine. On the one hand it would be great, but on the other, from what I have read the interaction between the port and direct injectors is pretty complex. Get that wrong, and you may need a new engine. So even when such a standalone is available, draw yourself a Venn Diagram including all the people who understand both high performance engine tuning, and the complex interaction between the port and direct injectors, and I think right now you end up with a very small population of people who speak Japanese, and are already being paid handsomely by Toyota to tune engines, and keep quiet about it. Maybe someday if one of the companies that can currently tune the stock ECU decides to branch out and recreate the stock map on a standalone, and then tune from there we will get somewhere.

^Correct, it is quite complex. And if I remember reading the LONG PDF about the inner-working of the motor, that as the engine nears the higher rpms, the motor switches from both direct and port to JUST direct injection for the duration to redline. Would have never thought that to have been the case!

I wonder what's the cost parts and labors. And how long does it take to get it running?

The FA20 actually brings the port injection back in at higher loads which the 2GR-FSE doesn't do. The port injection on the 2GR-FSE is used mostly at low-mid engine loads and at startup.
