Can somebody help point me in the right direction with this noise? I have video
Hello all,
So I was driving today on the highway for about an hour, all of a sudden the heat goes out.
This has never happened to me before so I had no idea what was going on.
Then when I finally got to my destination, I'm hearing noises coming from the hood that aren't normal. It's that high pitched squealing sound that seems all too common. I'm not sure if the noise existed before or that I am just more careful to listen now that there is a heating issue. The sound increases when I hit the gas, both in gear and while parked.
When I popped the hood, I smelled that faint burning smell that I assume is coolant and realized that I havent added any coolant in almost 4 years (40k miles) since.
I got some coolant and filled it up (I filled about 30-40% of a full gallon) and started the car and the noise is still there. Not sure if the heat is back yet since I didn't leave the car on long enough for the engine to get warm but was hoping somebody can possibly point me in the right direction in getting this noise identified and hopefully fixed.
Additional info
-Engine temp on the dash never showed it went overheated mode
-There was still some pink coolant left in the tank
Thanks for reading

Thanks everybody.
I just wanted to post that you guys were right and my water pump was indeed shot.
Replaced and $550 dollars lighter but the car is running normally again.

A weird thing happened while driving back home today in that after every 30 miles I would get a "engine oil is low" indicator then after 10 seconds it would go away but it would happen about every 30 miles give or take.
Do you have to release some oil when replacing the water pump? And stupid question alert, but can I just pour some oil in it? I'm not due for another oil change for about 1500 miles.
