Default 2006 Lexus is250 steering rack recall??

Hey guys my friends car just had the p/s light come on and lost steering assist, can still drive the car but hard to turn the wheel, been looking at some results online like ecu but I came across a "customer satisfaction campaign" that included the is250 steering and rear brakes. Anyone have more information on this? In some cases some guys got their steering rack replaced for free so curious if anyone has dealt with this issue.

I would post this in the IS250 section. You will probably get more responses

Most common cause of loss of power assist is failing alternator. If this is the issue, I'm sure your friend will know soon enough as he starts to encounter other electrical anomalies and then a dead battery. The service campaign on the steering rack was not for a loss of assist, it was for increased steering effort.

Just replaced the alternator a few months ago

you should check your alternator again, some rebuild alternator went out so quick.

Check Lexus.com and see if there are any outstanding recalls. There was a recall for the steering rack on some 2006 models.

It may have been done already, and it may still be an alternator issue, but it doesn't hurt to check.
