Does it matter if I put at like a safeway or like liberty gas station instead of exxon and shell? I mean if I don't need to pay more for my gas why should I right? I can afford it but I just don't like losing my money for something that a cheaper product will do better or same. I do put premium 91 at shell atm but just asking if it really matters where I put premium gas from. I have an is 250.

You're wasting your money putting premium gas in an IS250. It will run fine on 87 and I doubt you'll notice any decrease in performance(yes it will make a bit more hp with premium, but its already a slow, low hp, economy minded engine)

As far as brand of gas, I'd stick with a name brand like Shell or something, 87 octane. Around where I live their 87 octane is maybe 2 to 5 cents higher. The big thing you get with name brand gas is they put more detergents in the gasoline to keep your fuel injectors, valves, combustion chamber, etc cleaner.

It says on the gas tank door that premium is required and not recommended and even in the manual it said premium is required. I am not taking a chance and putting regular or mid grade 89 in the tank. I am just trying to see if there is a big difference in where I put my gas though because some places are cheaper and if its just more detergents do I really need them?

As far as Grade I'd stick with what's recommended in your owner's manual. I do believe it is Premium. For my use I only use Top Tier Gasoline:

I believe the additive packages provided by Top Tier Gas is worth the premium price.

the grade of fuel has zero to do with gaining or losing horse power.
the fuel grade determines how efficiently the fuel burns and how much knock retard is going to be needed by the motor to prevent knocking and pinging.

low compression motors can use lower octane fuels without issue.

high compression motors need higher octane to prevent pinging, knocking and possible internal motor damage. With the higher compression you need to have a more efficient fuel burn or damage will occur.

pretty sure the compression ratio on the IS250 is 12:1 and the manufacturer recommends premium. Using anything less will reduce the life of the motor if not completely destroy it over time.

and to take it one more level. you are driving a premium class luxury car that cost near $40,000.

the price difference between 87 and 91 octane in most areas is about 20 cents. So you are effectively saving $3 if you fill from dead empty (15 gallons) more likely you are saving about $2 filling from the 1/4 tank mark as most people do.

so is damaging your $40,000 vehicle worth saving $2? if it is you should either have bought a low compression gas sipping Prius, or be riding the (short) bus.

i don't think it matters what brand, I don't really care.

Ive used Hess, Speedway, Gulf, shell BP Exxon mobil and Sonoco.

all depends which has the cheapest or which is more convenient to me at the time.

91+ is 91+ imo...

I agree with the comments above,
Our engines have a high compression ratio and thus recommends using 91+
Ive always put 91 unless 91 wasn't readily available, and I have put a little 87+ till i got to the next location with 91+

for the most part no.. but if you experience sluggish behavior or excessive knocking I wouldn't go back to that brand.

the only real difference between the stations/brands are the additives they put in the fuel.

my neighbor is an independent truck driver, he delivers fuel,

he told me he fills his tanker at the Chevron Refinery and delivers to Circle K, Chevron, Texaco, Valero, and 7-Eleven stations from the same tanker, the only difference is the additives he puts in as he is filling the stations tanks.
