Navigation screen at night
I am having a problem and was hoping maybe someone here knows how I can fix it.
At night my navigation screen used to switch from white to black automatically. It no longer is doing this. Also at night my buttons around the navigation no longer are backlit. They all used to light up at night. My headlights still come on automatically at night so it seems the light sensor is still functioning... I have been trying to find any information I can about my problem and all I have found is people saying the cluster dimmer should not be turned all the way to the right and mine is not.
Thanks ahead of time for any advice on this.
My car is a IS350 2006

Also I should note I have stashed a few things (DAC, 5v power supply, relays ect) inside the center console. I have been in and out of the center console cavity many times in the last month or so. Along with buttons around my nav not being backlit anymore the Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive ect lights are no longer backlit.
There are 2 plugs that get plugged in under the shifter panel. One (small white plug) is for the seat heater/ac adjusters but there is also a larger black plug. I have always made sure they are both plugged in when I put everything back together but I dont know what the black plug is for? It seems that the black plug would be the only way the shift positions could be backlit?

I actually don't have that... it's just not there. Is it possible that was added in a later model? after 2006? As you can see to the left I have the cluster all the way dimmed out as well.

I suspect you don't have the virtual "Day mode" button because whatever electrical gremlin is keeping your shift position indicator and nav buttons dark is locking the unit into day mode, much as turning the instrument illumination to full brightness does.
Yes everything still behaves the same no matter what position the cluster dimmer or headlight dial is in
Under the console there are 3 connectors. These are the only connections I have messed with. One for the seat heaters, one for illumination of P, R, N, D (which no longer works under any conditions). And one for the ash tray unit. I went back in there yesterday and made sure they are all snugly connected.

I think what Bichon said is accurate, although not specific enough to resolve the problem:
"I suspect you don't have the virtual "Day mode" button because whatever electrical gremlin is keeping your shift position indicator and nav buttons dark is locking the unit into day mode, much as turning the instrument illumination to full brightness does."
I just noticed something that seems to complicate things further? In LucianoLee's picture his nav is set to "Day Mode" and his tactile buttons (AC/ Climate/ Defroster) are backlit. This seems to make things more confusing! Bah
