Default Another battery thread... best fitting battery

Hello Forum,

I apologize for yet another battery thread but I was searching and nothing clear cut come up so I was wondering what exactly is the best FITTING car battery replacement for the 2nd generation IS350.

I don't want to have to make adjustments or anything in order to fit it properly. I just want a good battery that fits, my car is stock so I don't need the extra power either.

Thanks

Any properly sized Group 24 automotive battery should fit just fine. I have a Bosch.

a couple of years ago Consumer Reports did a battery test/comparison and they rated the Advance Auto line of batteries as the best. Better than all others including Die-Hard, Interstate Duralast, etc. I have used them ever since and have had really good results (6+ years of service). and they fit the intended spaces without any modifications in my A4, TSX and SeaRay

Any group 24 battery will fit, but the ones that come with a strap will not fit the battery cover. You can throw the cover away.

^^^^My Bosch has a cloth carry handle and fits just fine with the top bracket. When I bought it, it was highly rated by Consumer Reports.

Group size 24 battery will do the job just fine. I was a battery specialist at my store (Advance Auto) when I worked there. I can tell you that there are really only a handful of battery manufacturers. Most batteries that you will find at the auto parts store (Zone, Advance, O'Reileys, etc) are made by Johnson Controls. I'd advise against going the cheapest route. A few extra dollars here will save you time and aggravation in the long run. That being said, the one I recommend is the one with the longest warranty. When I worked at the store (Has been 5 years since) I think the top line one had 3 year free replacement, out to 5 years pro rated warranty. I rarely got any of these back and if we did it was because of other issues (bad alternator/cables etc).

The battery in my IS now is a Kirkland (Costco) that was in it when I bought the car. The size is smaller than the stock one was (Seller gave me the old battery cover) but the CCA's match up and are sufficient.

Good to know. Interstate is one of the brands that make thier own batteries. As with anything car related there are lovers of this brand and others that won't touch it. Costco does good QA though and there must be a good reason they switched over to Interstate.

The difference here is reversed battery terminals. Might still work though if you install it so the + and - are on the same sides as the original battery and the cables will reach.

Actually Interstate batteries are made by Johnson Controls:

IMHO, not a good idea. It puts the terminals out in front in harm's way, and if the cable's reach, they would be stretched. Lexus actually uses Group 24F batteries on some of it's vehicles. My wife's ES350 had the battery on the driver's side of the vehicle, and that car took a Group 24F.

Default Keep the battery cover, just modify it.

Or you can just cut a couple of slots in the battery cover for the battery handle tabs. The cover is of thin plastic and cuts easily. Looks more finished with the cover and provides a bit of insulation.

See this link on how to cut the battery cover: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...placement.html

I put in a Walmart EverStart MAXX-24 battery (it's made by Johnson Controls). Works just fine. Fits perfectly. I have the handle in storage.
