Question F sport lower box

I have a question, instead of ordering the full f sport intake kit, could you just order the high performance filter, lower air box, and still have the same outcome as if you ordered the whole kit? im not sure if the tube that comes with the full kit plays that much of a part, at least in sound when it comes to the intake. So im wondering if the sound would still be the same as ordering the full kit, since mpg isnt affected if any.

Thanks guys!!

The tube adds HP. The hole in the bottom half adds the sound. So if all you want is sound, you can just order the lower box. Or if you dont want to spend any money, you can just cut a hole in the lower box. There is a DIY on that if you search.

tomiv9 summed everything up nicely.

In addition, I personally find 0.5-1 MPG increase with the FSport intake kit assuming i drive normally. I think the reason is more efficient airflow and breathing for the engine so. However, I love to floor my car much more to hear that sound so I end up wasting more gas haha.

Just remove the intake resonator and you'll have yourself a loudass sound.

Have you tried that? Any adverse effect of doing this?

I'd tried this out before with the stock intake because I didn't want to cut the box. Tbh sounds just like the F-sport one. Don't think I ran into any problems. You can remove the intake resonator off any car(if applicable) and it'll sound throaty. Put it back until you upgrade! Up to you

Isn't the purpose to bring cooler air to the intake box rather than suck all that hot engine air in?

I agree. I don't see how you could get colder air than the stock intake provides.

Then sucking hotter air in seems to be the adverse effect of removing the resonator then.

Removing the intake resonator will result in warmer air being sucked into the engine which will be detrimental to performance.

Where is the resonator? how does removing it allow warmer air into the intake? BTW, putting a hole in the lower box either DIY or buying Fsport also allows warmer engine air in.

Because the resonator gives a pathway to get air from the outside (I believe on the upper side of the IS grill) and lead it back to the intake box. If you take it away, the air inside the engine is directly going to the intake box.

Oh I wasn't aware that piece was a resonator. But as I said fsport with the hole in the airbox does essentially the same thing. So do other intakes which eliminate the airbox completely.

Many of the aftermarket intake don't use the airbox and hence some of them just suck hot air in from the engine and even decrease HP. They do provide louder sound though.

I agree. I used to have short ram intake (with no airbox). Just switched my intake back to the stock one.
Now, I could feel more torque and power at lower RPM
