Just replaced my battery, but the strut bar would only fit unless I put in the battery without the outside housing. The battery is secure with the strut bar, so how important is the battery case? Do I really need it?

 

BTW the previous battery was still the Panasonic OEM battery made in JP, it's incredible how long those lasted!

 

You should be fine. Many cars don't even have a battery housing. I didn't put the housing in my battery when I replaced it.

 

There housing holds the battery down, and should be reinstalled when the battery is replaced. If you should have an accident, you don't want the battery going anywhere. Is the replacement battery the proper Group Size 24F?

I know of no vehicle that doesn't have some kind of hold down mechanism for the battery.

In fact, the battery is definitely held down in its position tightly. It is not going anywhere. But there was a casing that goes loosely around the OEM battery, the plastic housing/casing, which didnt fit the new battery.

 

He's talking about the plastic casing, not the battery tie down and rod.

 

Ok I just went out and looked. You really don't need the plastic casing your speaking about, but if it doesn't fit the new battery, than the battery is not the proper replacement Group 24F size.

Absolutely needed for normal vehicle operation...no; nice to have, sure!

 

The plastic casing does fit the new battery, its just afterwards, the rod wont fit due to the new battery is about 1 cm taller than the OEM. Thanks for all the replies, appreciate it.
