Wow, there is some bad information in this thread.

Most national tire chains will not repair that tire because they will say it's too close to the sidewall and will give you a whole host of reasons why.

The truth is, that tire can be safety repaired. Find a local, mom and pop shop and have them do it. Trust me, you will be fine.

Also, a passenger tire doesn't just blow up. It gradually loses air and then disintegrates from the heat and friction.

Just keep an eye on it after the repair and you should be fine.

Yea I must agree with up top, saving 200 aint worth the danger of driving on a patch, just get a new tire

 

Not gonna lie, a lot of guys here are right, saving the 200 bucks definitely isnt worth the danger of driving on a patch and replacing a tire BUT personally I would take it to a local shop to get plugged/Patched. Its in between the tread which most likely wont make contact with the ground or be compromised unless your really low tire pressure. Any closer to the sidewall I would tell you to replace it

But all in all just really depends on if you have the funds to do so.

It's really not as bad as a lot of people make it out to seam. The horror stories that you hear are originate from people trying to sell you tires and it's easier to replace a tire then it is to repair the tire, just food for thought

The location of his nail is fair game at some places. I worked at a national shop. If your strapped for cash try a local tire shop. As long as they know what they're doing it'll be alright just keep an eye on it. If not, +1 on the hankook really good tire for the money

 

Had one like that on my stock OEM tires, took it to a local shop and they plugged it said it might not work but worth the try. Tire went another 30K miles till I got new rims and tires with no leaks. Had the same thing on one of my Michelin PSS tires and America tire wouldn't fix it. lucky I had the road hazard package and they replaced it.

 

It may work out and may not but dont down play a potential issue

 

Honestly will it last using a patch, yes possibly. For how long, could be a week could be 6 months or the life of the remaining tread. Is it safer to replace HELL YEA!
