Default 2006 IS250 awd loud ticking

Yes I know due to the direct injectors they cause a ticking noise. But recently after driving about 30mins straight on the highway I heard a very loud ticking noise. So I pull over and took a look. It was coming from the left side of the engine. Need any advice. Car has 98,000 miles. I only use 93 gas and 5w30 oil. When I step on the gas the ticking was faster. After a minute or 2 the loud ticking stopped and I no longer hear the loud ticking even if I step on the gas. I hear the regular direct injectors. Its done it twice to me. Both were 30min drives no traffic. I usually drive more then that. But I dont have any codes or any thing to take to a dealer. No check engine lights

No I haven't replaced the water pump yet. I'll have it checked out. But I drive the car everyday. Sometimes I drive it for hours and nothing. It only happened those 2 times. Ill try going for a longer drive this weekend and also have the water pump checked out. Ill also check for any codes again.

Thanks for the input bro. But I had the water pump checked out and my mechanic said its perfectly fine. No leaks and the bearing is still good. Also no codes. im wondering if it can be my alternator because I recently noticed my alternator only giving me 13.5v, with the ac on 13.3v. And when the car first starts up 14.4v. Is this common on our IS?

Its more of a ticking noise. Not grinding. The higher the rpm, the faster it would tick. The lower the rpm, the less it would tick. I wonder if its a sticky lifter. Ill go for a longer drive and make a video if it occurs again

I looked at the video you posted up and no it doesn't sound the same. Its more on the left side towards the battery area but it sounds like its coming from the engine. I had the oil changed yesterday and I went for a 300 mile drive. 150 miles both ways. And it didn't make a single noise. I wonder if the oil was getting thin that could cause that. Ill try again monday and see if I can make a video of the noise if it makes it again

Ok so now the car has almost 104,000 miles on it. Once again it did the same thing on the highway. I will be doing the spark plugs this weekend. Also I have a video of the noise which I'm currently uploading on YouTube. I'll post the link asap. Another symptom I'm having is when the random noise starts happening and I come to a completely stop, you can see the engine is shaking more like a misfire. The vsc light and check engine light came on. When I turned the car off to check the codes, nothing came up. I started the car again and it was like the car never had a problem. I notice when I go up a steep hill it misfires a bit.

http://youtu.be/EPWenltdLmc

If you listen closely you will hear the misfire and a loud knocking or rattling noise. Trying to still figure this out. Anyone? Please and thank you. I appreciate any advice or help. Just dont want to go to the stealership and pay an arm and leg. But in the long run it looks like I might have to.

Why don't you just take it to the dealer and have them check it out? I'm sure they'll be able to pin pint the problem!

Yes the warranty is finished on the car and I had no other choice but take it to the dealer. So I paid $286 for the diagnostic and want to know what the mechanic said "we couldn't pin point the problem but the next time it happens bring your car back in with a code and we will have a look at the code for free but if it's anything else than a code we will charge you."

It could be the hydraulic valve lifters are being starved of oil, worth checking out

Honestly, just drive it until there is a code. Changing down noises isn't a good use of your time. If you're getting oil starvation, the damage is done by the time you hear it on-going.

If it's serious, the car will throw a code. $286 is spendy for a quick look. Normally it's $110.

Honestly I was thinking the same thing. My mechanic also said I should let him check the lifters and change them see if that helps. But I decided to go to the dealer and see if they can figure it out and be certain that's the problem. But they came up with nothing. I might just have my mechanic look into that for me. But I usually wash my car every week and sometimes I wash it 2 weeks later. And I have the habit of checking the fluids after I finish washing the car and I only topped off the oil like twice because it move slightly. Other than that its always at the line. Still ill look into it

Your right but at the same time i dont want to be stuck in the middle of the highway even though i have AAA. But i have no other choice, so ill try my best to get a code and a better video of whats going on next time. Yeah I know. But also they kept my car from friday afternoon until saturday afternoon. I wonder what kind of diagnosing they did hmm. Probably just let the car sit there and charge me a fee.

Also thanks to everyone for gave any advice and try to help and also anyone who commented. I appreciate it.
