Default If you had to... (Aftermarket 17" Wheels)

If you had to run aftermarket 17's what wheel would you choose? I ran 18s and 19s on the IS already the past 2 years but honestly just want a comfortable ride over looks (NYC roads). Its a lowered SGM IS (s-techs) but not slammed. Suggestions on what would look good/conservative?

Personally I think 17s would look way too small. S-Techs aren't the most comfortable ride to begin with....I'd start there lol.

eh....would rather run stocks than aftermarket 17's. Thats just my opinion, maybe others will chime in.

edit: SubieChik...sig from the "graffiti thread" post uh? hehe

my car started with s-tech springs. I didn't think they were that uncomfortable.
Do you have reasons, other than looks, to keep the car lowered? I guess you have to decide if lowered and 17" looks better than higher and 18". Rims are such a personal choice when it comes to look. I'm old, so a lot of what looks good to the rest of you, I'm not fond of.

I need to go for an extended test drive in someones car with BC Coils or road magnet springs and agree with you S-Techs probably are not the most comfortable. I would run OEMs but mine are bent to crap from this past winter. Was thinking of something with straight spokes. Going for the OEM+ look.

Looks definitely, but it also helps the car clear my garage door (steel rolling door) when i have a bike on the roof rack instead of taking it off just to past the garage.

I'm actually surprised at how well the IS rides low. Even with my 19s and small tires it still rides like stock.....like I'm riding on air lol pun intended.

Bumping this up.

If you had to... (Aftermarket 17" Wheels)-a9zvjcm.jpg
Note: Ride height uneven because the car was just jacked up and did not move since

Since i'm not crazy about anything aggressive/show stopper and want the OEM+ route as well as comfort, i ultimately went with BBS 17's (from an EVO9) as my stock 17s were all dinged up. Also went a size up in tires from the OEM 225/45/17 to 235/45/17. Hard to tell in the pic, but the 235/45s have a noticeable difference in terms of sidewall 'bubble' and also height. I prefer these over the 225's.

The BBS wheels are approximately 17 lbs each, and bolted right on. The only thing needed was hubcentric rings. You can reuse stock lugs, etc.

This setup resulted in a HUGE increase in comfort, big enough that I'm no longer itching to swap out my s-techs for another set of springs/coils with comfy spring rates.

That looks great, that BBS is def my style

...was thinking 18 to 17 too due to all the crazy speed bumps here in San Diego.

yeah I used to think so too but due to crappy roads here and not seeing any 20s I wanted to spend my money on I dropped from 20s and 19s down to 18s.

I went from 19's with stretched tires (not my scene, sold after a month), to 18's with OEM sizing (225/40/18) and back to 17s. 18s looked great but theres a huge difference in ride quality between 17/18, and i dont want to chance in with the NYC potholes (which magically appear out of no where).
