I knew I wanted a BMW or Lexus. I went with Lexus for reliability!! I'm too young to be riding around in a big LS so I was on the fence between a Gs or a IS.. After driving both I decided to go with the IS because it seemed to be a little sportier and handled better in the corners. Ultimately I wanted something I could zip around in, fun to drive, and good on gas.. As a bonus I happen to pick a car that has several hundered mods available that I could easily drop $10,000 on in a blink of an eye!! What about you guys????

At first I wanted an s2000. Price was like $16k around in my area. Then I looked for an IS since I wanted this One. Of course is350 and it was 18k. I was like for 2 more thousand I could get a better car! But when I checked the location it was far! So I ended up looking at local dealerships and found a clean is350 for 24k and bought it! Over budget BUt im happy with it!

when i test drove my IS i was just like I gotta have it, but then after getting it I'm like damn shoulda got the 350, but the 250 still solid and I'm only 21 when i bought my first car, next time for sure paying cash..

Hahaha same exact thing with me. Couldn't be happier I chose the 350. Only had it under a month and still can't wait to get in it and drive no matter where I'm going.

Back in the days when I was shopping for a sports sedan, the IS350 wasn't even on my shopping list. It looked great but I just felt that it was too "soft" and focused too much on luxury instead of driving dynamics.

I only wanted a 335i because of the awesome way it drove and that N54 twin turbo motor was insane when it comes to power mods. My first German car also.

Everybody told me that German cars were unreliable, I really never believed it because my dad had a 325 back in 1987 and it lasted 300k+ miles.

After living with the 335i a few years, the great handling and awesome motor was not enough to justify it's terrible reliability record. I do miss they way it drives. Words can't justify how nice a BMW with a sports package drives, feels like a tank on the highway, so solid and confident, yet so lively and precise in the canyons.

I wanted FUN like that but in a more reliable package, so an alternative to the 335i for me was an IS350. I don't have any experience in an older pre 2009 IS350 but my 2011 drives and handles sweet. Slowly adding in the full F-sport suspension, springs/shocks, sways, brace ect should transform it into that great all sports sedan I'm seeking. The IS350 motor is awesome, smooth and pulls just as strong as the 335i stock vs stock. Kinda wished the 6spd AT was more performance oriented with better shift response from the paddles and maybe rev matching to smooth out those downshifts. Can't really complain when hauling from a stop though, the gearing and fast crisp shifts are awesome.

Overall, I am loving it so for. After I'm done with the suspension and give it some nice 19" shoes, it should be near perfect for me.

Still thinking about getting one. Almost got a IS250 but reading about the whole carbon buildup issue, the hassle you have to go through with the dealers for the CSP, and the fact that the CSP for the IS250 I was going to get expires in a little over a year, I decided against it. Hope I made the right choice!

Maintenance....

Originally was looking at BMW's and Audi's for a sporty sedan. I've owned a Audi A4 before and loved it but didn't love all the maintenance that comes with owning a Euro car. I really wanted a 335i but ended up with a IS350 instead.

So far so good, I love the IS350 and currently no maintenance issues w/ 39K miles.

I was either gunna buy a new civic for 24k, accord hybrid 34k (too much anyways to pay in full for me at the time), Acura TL, or a MB. MB maintenance too high, TL was a little too large (09+) and for the price of a 2014 civic, I could have the is350, although a few years older, it had 65km on it so I said let's go luxury and power. No regrets at all. Maintenance is cheap because I also know a Toyota mechanic so he takes care of my car for me. My buddy also owned an MB c63, but sold it for an ISF. When I asked him why, he said he loved the MB, but his wasn't worth the reliability issues it had.

I was originally dead set on an Audi S4, but eventually the 13 city/19 hwy fuel rating persuaded me otherwise. I looked at some M3's but wasn't really convinced about the reliability and maintanence. So I decided to stick with the Japanese since that is what I have always done. But the offerings were thin. G35 Sedan 6MT was hard to find, drove the TL Type-S and decided I just didn't want FWD. I gave the Evo and STi and quick passing thought, but they are even smaller and I already have a turbo AWD car. The IS350 was never even a target on the map since it wasn't available in a manual tranny. But I eventually went and looked at some and took them for a drive and the power, luxury, and reliability let me forgive the automatic tranny enough to go with it. Which, in retrospect, was pretty good idea because it has been a good car.

In my case, it was the combination of it being a Toyota (low-cost maintenance)/lower priced (when compared to the others in the category)/GREAT acceleration (best of the vehicles I tested)/ and resale value.

Owned an SC400 for 10 years and put almost 300k miles on it.Absolutely amazing car when it came to reliability. But it was time for me to buy another car. Absolutely knew I was going to get another Lexus. IS350 was a must because I wanted the power. It was just ridiculously hard to find the exact one I wanted. Finally found one on eBay in VA. Bought it, flew to VA and drove it back to FL in an ice storm lol. Totally worth it!
