Foglight rusted on the inside; eBay parts okay?
Car: 2006 Lexus IS250, RWD
I guess whoever replaced the foglights forgot to close the cover correctly, so the passenger side foglight is rusted quite badly from the inside. When I went to the dealership, they quoted a ~$400 cost to replace the foglight assembly. I thought this was ridiculous, and it would be cheaper to get the part and do it myself (or go to another mechanic), so checked the part at Sewell: http://is.sewellparts.com/accessorie...2006/6394.html It's ~$210. Just wondering, would this eBay part be okay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/TYC-19-5883-...-/300997138928 It's under $90... |
On Sewell it's $152.76 with CL discount. When you make an account there, put you're a CL member. You'll get addition savings for most items. That eBay foglight is aftermarket. There will be differences on build quality but it should operate just fine (it's just a foglight). Try putting up a "Wanted" thread in the 2IS sale section. Hopefully somebody has one lying around. I had a oem passenger side foglight lying around and sold it for $20 in that fs thread. Now I think about it, I still have several parts leftover for the 2IS, like an oem driverside hid headlight in good condition.

I know it's aftermarket, but they're just foglights... does that really matter? o_O

I replaced one of the foglights on my family's Camry with an eBay one listed as OEM. Anyways the build quality was different between the one on the car and the one I got on ebay. The one on the car had like a frosted glass lense and the ebay one had a clear glass lense (which I would prefer to be honest). But more noticeable was that they had different cutoffs lines.
So there may be differences xD |
I have a passenger side fog light laying around in my trunk taking up space. Shoot me an offer via PM may be we can work so.ething out.
