Default OEM HID flickers and completely turns off

Was changing out my city lights and while I was testing the lights my OEM low beams goes out. First it flickers and then completely shuts off. There was a light burning smell electrical smell. Is this the HID ballast, bulbs, or the wiring problem?

For me it was the bulb. But I have heard of ballast issues as well. switch the bulbs to find out.

Seems like this is a common problem. Did you guys end up getting a replacement bulb or just went with a whole new set of aftermarket bulbs?

I went with Phillips 5000k and love them. If these go out then I'm going with 6000k either one are way better than the OE in my opinion.

I had the same thing happened to me not too long ago, it turned out to be the bulb, did some investigating into the issue n come to find out it was the wrong watt his bulb that the previous owner put in, so make sure if you're going to get aftermarket hid bulbs make sure they are 35watts n not 55 watts. 55watt hid bulbs will end up melting ur d4s connector which is probably why you smelled something burning Smokyis350

Good to know. But I am using stock HID and ballast.

I might just grab some Garax 6000k D4s bulbs for $90.

My OEM low beams just went out yesterday, but it was only the passenger side. Every other lights work so could that also be that my bulb went out too?

Try taking the drivers bulb out and test your passenger side. Hopefully it will narrow it down to just the bulb and not the ballast.

Seems like it is the bulb. My passenger side went out also.

I just grabbed some Garax 6k for $90 shipped. Didn't want to replace one and the color is a bit off.
