Default Check Engine, Check VSC - bad MAF & intake - HELP

all of a sudden...my check engine light came on and also it says Check VSC with traction light on...

what the heck happened???

so i take it to Lexus Dealership...they tell me Mass Air Flow sensor is bad...also i need to remove my intake...and put the stock intake back on...

I said i don't have any stock parts...so how much will it cost to remove my intake and install stock intake and all other stock parts back on. .. they said $1200...

so I told them that I am going to ask clublexus first before i make any final decisions...

so here i am...

what should i do???

this is what I am thinking...why install stock intake...why not buy fsport intake and filter and maf sensor from sewell and let them install it...probably end up paying less than $1200 with better intake...

What do u guys think???

Does maf sensor come built in with fsport intake?
Do I have to have maf sensor?
Right now, maf sensor is like glued and soldiered onto my intake...and cannot be removed...

Here is the pic below...

Anyways...what should i do to solve this check engine, check vsc problem...

What ALL do i need to buy from Sewell...just fsport intake and maf sensor...what other parts are required???

Thanks for your help!!!

There are several things you could do:

1)Replace the maf and reinstall in your current setup. OE maf is $110, or aftermarket maf is $30-$40

2)Replace your entire set up with an OE airbox ($200-250) on ebay includes oe maf, plus joe z intake pipe ($120).

3)Replace the entire set up with all OE parts: airbox w/maf, and air intake pipe ($400) on ebay

Any of these should solve your problem and be far cheaper than $1200

Mike, i like number 2...

Joe z intake is better than regular Lexus intake correct?

Which intake would make my car sound loud

Thanks!

Nothing bad to ever say about the joe-z. Adds a nice tone and is very "car friendly" for a lack of better words.

I would like to do this:

2)Replace your entire set up with an OE airbox ($200-250) on ebay includes oe maf, plus joe z intake pipe ($120).

Can someone provide ebay link for these items:

I don't see it on ebay for my car: 2006 Lexus is350

Why do you need to replace your intake? Do you have an oiled air filter? Have you tried cleaning your MAF? A can of CSC MAF cleaner is only $5 and worth a shot.

Andy,

Here is a complete set up: airbox w/maf, air inlet pipe, and inlet snorkle...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/06-07-08-09-10-11-12-LEXUS-IS250-IS350-AIR-CLEANER-FILTER-BOX-COMPLETE-SET-OEM/300991841526?rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D261%26meid%3D2659745444966864998%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D1088%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D331048605777%26
I would make offer of $300.00 to see if you can get them down, but $400 is still a good price. Everything you need is there. You can still get a joe z pipe, and have the oe air inlet pipe as well in case you ever need it.

You don't "need" the OEM intake to have a perfectly fine running 2IS. Like I've mentioned in the past, get rid of that hacked up mess of an intake and get a proper one designed for the car. Grab a can of MAF cleaner spray and give it a shot first before forking out the money for a new MAF.

GL!

ok...ebay has this complete set up: airbox w/maf, air inlet pipe, and inlet snorkle...

ok...if i remove my current intake...what all do i need...

as you can see from my pic, i already got the air inlet pipe attached(black rubber pipe).

so do i just need the air box with maf and just attach this to the air inlet pipe and i'm done???

is that all i have to do?

do i need the inlet snorkle?

if i get this ebay setup, will i still need the joe z?

thanks for the help...i am really clueless about all this...

As long as your current air inlet pipe has not been shortened it can be reused, it looks ok from the picture...

No you do not need a joe z pipe...

You need the airbox and maf. The air inlet snorkle will draw cool air from the front of the car just underneath the hood.

Do you have the black plastic engine compartment panels? If so you should put the front one on with the inlet snorkle.

First check your "gas cap," a loose gas cap could cause the check engine and VSC light to come on.
Open your gas cap then close it again as tight as you can then drive around and see if the lights turn off. It could take around 1-2 miles if not more before the light turns off.

If that doesn't work you could try cleaning the MAF sensor with "CRC MAF Spray Cleaner" found at your local auto shop for around $5-7 dollars.

I would try these first.
