Default Bridgestone Potenza RE92 Sidewall tire blowout on a near new tire. Lexus IS250

Hi I was wondering if you could give me some advice. My mom has a 2011 Lexus IS250 she bought brand new and has only put 8k miles on it. She was on the freeway and the tire blew out the, the sidewall looks like it just disintegrated. The tires look nearly new and this is very concerning. I'm concerned about her driving on these tires because of safety issues. Has anyone had similar issues with these tires? I'm worried these tires are from the same batch and that she might have the issue pop up again in the future. Thanks

Looking at the pic with the tread still rapped around the wheel and the wheel on the car, it appears that the very inner side of the tire had some bad camber wear. Hard to pinpoint now with the blow-out and all, but perhaps there was a bad toe issue on that wheel?

The tires should be under warranty. I would call the place where your mom purchased the tires from. Voice your concerns and maybe get the rest of the tires changed out.

Wow I would definitely make a complaint to LEXUS about it and express your concerns. The tough part is that the tires are wear and tear part so they usually dont cover it. But in this case of a tire blowout its possible to have a faulty tire.

Killer alignment. They owe you new tires, wheels and a free alignment.

I've heard the lexus is250 has naturally bad camber. I have a friend with the same car and he blew out a tire as the inside wore super fast. The tire isn't the expensive part (though they want to charger he $350 for 1 oem tire, crummy potenza re92). The fender and bumper etc need to be replaced that's the expensive stuff. Almost 3k and something like 15+ hours labor of painting was the quote. What a joke imo.

When was the last time she had checked the pressure in the tires?

To me it looks like it may have been driven on with low pressure for awhile before the sidewall finally gave out. With today's low profile tires it is especially important to check tire pressure. Just because it may not look like the tire is squatting from low pressure, doesn't mean it isn't low. I know I have ran on a flat tire (205/35/R17) that I couldn't even tell had 0 pressure in it.

See the inner-most portion of this tire versus the outer; there's a definite "wear" issue on the inside. Most likely a horrible alignment coupled with possible under-inflation.

ok thanks for pointing it out. I'm not very good at reading tire wear unless it's really pronounced.

Sorry Gville, but I do not agree with the wear issue on the inside. I do see that the tread on the inside edge of the tire de-laminated, I do not see however any visible differences in tread depths or wear patterns that would show excessive camber or toe. There is no visible feathering or the tread blocks to indicate toe issues.

I do see where the dust has been rubbed from the tread itself, which could have been caused by other things such as the cap hitting the fender lining; that is visible on the outside edge as well.

The mode of failure highly suggests running with little to no air pressure.
