Default 07 IS250 Sunroof/ Moonroof Rattle

I did search the forums and most of the talk is about the magic 3M Silicone spray, wet or dry.

That would probably work if what you're hearing is a squeak, but what I have is a rattle, pretty much constant when the sunroof is closed or tilted, VERY annoying. Does anyone have instructions on how to remove the sunroof so I can take a look at what's going on? I think there was a TSB for it as well?

On both sides, there is a flexible rubberish cover for the rails, I have removed the one on the right and rattle is much louder, so I have probably localized the area, just have to remove the glass to take a look?

Any help is appreciated. Thx

Did you try tightening the bolts? I had the same problem in my old car (constant rattle, not squeak), and dealer just tightened the bolts back to spec + some loctite and all was good

Good suggestion, I did not, but there are 4 screws, 2 on each rail, that I assume keep the sunroof attached, I will try to tighten then down.

I am hoping someone has a schematic or instructions on how to properly take it apart, put it together. Torque spec as well.

Thx

Checked the 4 star head screws and they are all nice and tight. Still hope I can find instructions for the sunroof.
Yesterday, on a hot and humid day, there was no rattle

This is what I found so far:
By looking at the picture above, you can see the two torx/ start screws. There are two on each side, with the moonroof closed you can remove them and push the glass out. Planning to do that next.

Does anyone have a schematic of the sunroof components?

I found the root cause of the rattle, which is the aluminum railing on the right hand side.

If I put my hand to where the arrow points the rattle goes away. Unfortunately it seems to be one of the attachment points to the chassis.

Can't believe nobody has any info about this sunroof...

You've probably seen this before, but just in case here are the schematics for the sunroof.

thanks, I did look at that and it was good to see the bits and pieces, not much more.

I was hoping to find someone that went through this exercise and share their experience. Seems to be a very sensitive topic, without a lot of experience shared. No pics, videos that I could find

There was a thread on here where people were putting pieces of foam or cut up mouse pads to stop the rattle. A little gangster, yes. Did it work? They claim it did.

Either way I have to find something for mine as well...damn thing drives me nuts!

You have to remove the headliner to get to those bolts. I had to drop the sunroof assembly to change out the sunshade. I posted a DIY on headliner swap with photos of the bolts etc. doubt you would want to go thru that much trouble, but its the only way to those bolts.

thanks euroimage, that is what I thought. I ended up stuffing some hard foam between the headliner and the railing on that side. It made things better, because it acts like a damper. Without it, every time the car chassis flexes a bit I have that aluminum rubbing on metal somewhere, and it resonates through the chassis.
So far it seems that I got it under control, fingers crossed.

Next is the rearview mirror, there is a sticky on how to take it apart, mine sounds as if the mirror inside the plastic cover is loose, so it should be doable.

The rattle is pretty annoying ... I had it. If you have any break in music, you will hear it right above your head.

I took it to the dealer and they said the problem is the sunroof housing assembly and cables and replaced these parts:
63203-53020 HOUSING SUB-ASSY, SL
63205-0E020 CABLE SUB ASSY, SLID

I will check those parts on Sewell, thx. But with all the work that seems to be involved I might just "just turn the volume higher" like some suggested
