Default My drag strip passes (4/25/13)...1/8th mile

Finally had a nice day to visit the track AND use the GoPro. Thursday evenings are test-and-tune night, and anything and everything are welcome to come and have fun for $7 PP. Though I had hoped that the temps would be lower, it was nearly 80 degrees outside and the trip from work to the track was 30 minutes. So there are so NO cool down time at all. Yet, after 7 passes you can definitely tell heat-soak was getting the best of the 350's performance. Passes were nearly a half second longer after the 7th pass.

All passes were made with the rear tires (Dunlop Sport Maxx GTs) at 40 psi, rear dampers (BCRs) set to 6, SRI, stock exhaust, and VSC & T/C still on. Decked out in full DD'ing trim and half a tank of fuel.

Enjoy!

First past was the fastest pass @ 8.9:

Second pass was ok @ 9.0 :

Nice work bro. I was just taking a couple days ago about taking mine down to the Dunn/Benson Dragway to see what kinda numbers she can run. Sounded like minimal wheel spin in the vids. Maybe a quick power brake to heat the rears up first? I doubt I would back into the water box, but had thought that I would lite them up a little first. I have a co-worker that just bought a 2013 Boss 302 and he ran a 7.7 in it. Really drives home the difference in 0-60 times when you run an 1/8 mile.

Actually zero wheel spin off the line. You can see in the vids I avoid the water box, get into the tracks, romp on it for a second to get off any excess water or debris, then line up. With the ability to lower the damper settings on my BCRs I've never spun at the track. Before on stock suspension I had to feather the throttle slightly off the line...but not any more.

With street tires there is ZERO need to heat up the tires.

Makes sense. Because of all the stereo equipment I have in the trunk, I resist the urge to nail it from a dead stop. Guess I will have to throw caution to the wind if I do take it to the track. The local strip here has the test and tune nite on Thursdays (my normal day off). I may just take in the next few weeks and see how I do. Gotta get a cam first though! Vids could be posted or immediately deleted depending on how I do. Ha!

Nice videos! Dragging is a lot of fun

I had the opportunity to drag my car at Irwindale and also recorded my runs with my gopro. I lined up with a 350, GTR, and other fast cars so I had no chance of winning

Not bad. Nice job.

Yeah heat is really a big factor. Raralith has an 1/8 mile thread where he talks about cooling down between runs with a bag of ice. He's hit nearly 8.6xx on his absolute best runs with perfect weather conditions (and cooling down the engine with ice).

^Yeah, I tried to find shade...but there is only one place and by the time I had done a few runs that spot in the hot-pits was taken. A bag of ice would help, but I find it take nearly 6 hrs of sitting to completely cool down. A fan would be your best bet. I was hoping the temps would have been cooler since it was in the 60s the day before, but like SC...it warmed up the next day QUICK!
