kumquatism, B16da9:

I am prepared (mentally as well) to cut the back of the housing.. I'm staring at the opened headlight right now at my desk, trying to come up with a method of retaining AFS. I've seen someone cut the bracket quite a bit as well. The progress I've had today was mostly taking the lights off the car and getting them opened. 3 hours total. This is going to be good if/when I can make it work.

BTW. I bought a pair of TSX projectors today too. If all goes well, those are going in the fog lights. I don't mind tearing my fogs up to do so.

Kenny use a new eye glass cloth to wipe down the lens prior to mounting and again prior to sealing. Worked best for me. Also helps to get the finger prints of the shrouds and bezels.

Wow you're brave for attempting this as those projectors are massive. I give you props if you can pull off this retrofit. I've done 5 retrofits personally and still haven't built the courage to open up my OEM IS lights and take a dremel to it. Electrical engineering student here

Looking forward to this and the TSX fog retrofit. Been thinking of doing something similar, but hopefully this detailed thread will help out the process. Best of luck!

What's the worst that can happen right? Buy a new pair? Screw it, gotta be brave if you want nice head lights. I'm a Mechanical Engineer Student btw. Will be doing a semester of EE this fall. Can't wait!

I think the TSX in the fogs will be sick. But let's get through the head lights first and see.

Update:

After inspecting the projectors, I found one bowl to have a slight burn. So I bought the last pair the seller had. I then pieced those together with my pair to get one perfect set.

So.. I have 4 TL projectors w/ 2 good OEM lenses, 2 ZKW-R CLEAR lenses from TRS, 2 TSX projectors, 4 ballasts (2 Acura, 2 Toyota) ,6 Phillips bulbs. Not including the ones coming off my 2IS.

I'll be selling the excess to recoup some of the project cost later on. Either that, or just keep stock. Never know when a ballast will be handy.

KennyD, from my experience I think it will be extremely difficult to keep AFS on a retrofit. I'm saying because of the way the stock projector is mounted. If you've noticed you'll see that the top portion of the projector is basically a pin with a bushing on it to let the projector rotate from left to right. While the bottom of the projector has the mechanism for the rotation.

I do think that you can keep the auto level feature and I will test this out myself as I will be retrofitting the LED headlights on my IS350. On your car with AFS you might have to leave the motor plugged into the harness and secure it to the housing so the AFC computer does not throw an error code.

Going to test out a couple of theories today, as soon as I get home. I am prepared to go the distance to get these TL projectors in. It's called modding for a reason. I don't go for prefab/plug n play mods often. I like special unique mods.

That being said. Plans: get projector sitting in housing today. Maybe hybrid TL bowl + IS250 FRONT HALF OF BOWL + CLEAR LENS?

Not sure till I pull these IS projectors out.

I'm sure you can make it work just take your time and have plenty of patience. I personaly took about 20 hours of labor on my first 2012 light to get everything perfect and how I wanted it.

Wow. Amazing work and attention to details. I love when a person pays attention to mounting and functionality, while keeping it as clean as possible. I really hate when there's glue and all sorts of brackets being fabricated. Hope I have as smooth of an install (not that yours was easy by any means).

One tip i can give you is to do one light at a time, once you got that one the way you like it the process will go a lot faster on the second one.
