Haha bro it does nothing if you try and drive it without the key in our 2IS
It's sad - but if our cars are on you can still jump in without the key and drive the car till you turn it off again. My brother did this to me, I was.... shocked. lol

It should shut off in the new BMW 3's! My roomate had one (2010 I believe) and if you jumped in his car without the key fob within a certain distance it would shut off the MOMENT you touched the brake. That's how our cars should have been designed too!

friend of mine did that at a TGI Fridays. It was not a keyless ignition. Many laughs when we found out where the keys were after he frantically searched high and low at our booth.

I'm worried and won't attempt to drive it until I put gas in it. Just changed my oil about 6 weeks ago.

So let me know CL what I should do. Is my car ok? Or should I not be worried.

Thanks.
Don't drive it. Its going to blow up the next time you put it in Drive.

Eight hours of the car running without moving?

Sounds like a typical days of driving in Los Angeles or Washington DC. (ducking)

As others have said, no need to worry.

No, it does not work this way. Once the engine is running it will continue to run until turned off or it runs out of gas .... the absence of a key has no effect on it's operability. It's a safety issue, you don't want the car to automatically shut down if the key isn't present, or if the battery in the fob gives out or there is a malfunction in the fob itself.
