it ends up only a little bit more expensive than a conventional oil change at my dealership.

I just bought my Wife a 2012 IS-250-AWD. Is the factory oil a break in oil.I'm sure it's synthetic.
How long should I leave it in ? How many miles ?

If i'm not mistaken, all the 2012 250's use 0w20 oil which is synthetic. The motor is already broken in at the factory nowadays on most cars, Lexus included. So your first oil change really only needs to be the first time your manual recommends it. I believe it is 12 months or 10,000 miles - whichever comes first, for the 2012 IS250s.

I buy my Mobil 1 from Walmart for about $25 for a 5 quart jug and then add 1.6 quarts to it. I have found it to be the least expensive oil change. You can snag a Purolator filter from Pep Boys for about $6 which makes for a relatively inexpensive DIY oil change. If you buy in bulk, the OE Toyota filter can be had from Sewelll for less. Either way, it is better than paying $100+ for a synthetic oil change from the dealer.

I personally have used Mobil 1 Full Synthetic in all my vehicles. I change my own oil so it costs me a total of $40 for a 5w-30 full syn oil and filter change. In my previous car I took it in for a valve adjustment and they said they have never seen an engine that clean before. Its worth the extra few dollars, trust me.

How much should I expect to pay extra for a synthetic vs. conventional oil change at the dealer?

Im not positive on the exact price but I know the synthetic at the dealer is over $100. I think conventional is around $60. Don't quote me on that.

Thanks KillaIS-250. I guess I should try to read the manual more.
I'm just reading my 2012 RX-350 manuals,I guess the same time and ,or miles would go for the RX-350 also.
I didn't get to that part.
I would have asked the sales associate but most of them no little tech on the cars.

Amsoil in the first two years. Until the shipping charge and the taxes became a hassle. I now jump to mobile 1 EP @ Walmart.
