This is a well known problem with 250s and 350s especially the 2006 models. There was a TSB about the issue for early production models for 2006. In order to fix the problem, the engine is taken out of the vehicle and that's why it is an expensive fix.

I also have a very slow oil leak and I made a thread about it the other day because I wasn't sure if it was coming from the banjo fitting on the oil cooler line, or if it's my timing cover. Do you know the approximate location of the source of your oil leak? Here's a picture of the area where my leak is coming from. It's towards the front of the engine on the passenger side underneath.

Call Longo Lexus and ask for Jimmy Thach (service advisor). Say you're from clublexus. Ask for a quote for the timing cover leak. See if he can offer you a better deal. They did mine leaked but I was under warranty. Good luck.

Ugh... I think I have this same problem. My dealership told me I had an oil leak and that the pan needed to be resealed. Now that I found this thread, I'm guessing the problem is more than just a reseal...

Anyone have luck contacting corporate?

Why would you have reason to suspect that? If it was just the pan that was leaking, I would think that they would be able to tell if the leak was coming from higher up on the engine.

Mine ended up being about 3300 total to get fixed, same issue. Lucky for me I had the extended warrenty so it was only 100 bucks out of pocket.

I will see if I still have the repair slip.

I had the same issue with my '07 IS 350. In order to repair this the engine has to be pulled. My dealership did not charge the prices I am seeing in this thread; it was more like $2100. The first kit they installed was defective and they had to put in another one, first one covered by extended warranty, second time was warranty work for the first attempt. I also paid to have the water pump replaced while the engine was out of the car as it was only $250 for the part and this is a common part to fail on IS's. You also will not have to do the coolant flush on the engine (at least I didn't) because it has to be replaced when they remove the engine. My car is serviced at Park Place Lexus in Grapevine, Texas.

Brought the car in to have an oil change and got the dreaded mesage that the car has a timing chain cover/ camshaft oil leak. The dealership offered a "discount" price of $3,200 to fix
Anyone from Northcal/bay area has any recommendation of an trusted indiie shop could do it for less? Thank you in advance.

I read that the leak commonly occured on the front passenger side (about 2/3 of the way up). I hope yours isnt leaking.

is this something that can be addressed when they do the cam gear recall? If so that should cut down loads on labour?

On another related note, if this develops after the cam gear recall is done, can it be blamed on them opening the engine to get to the cam gears and not resealing properly?

No; during the recall they do not remove the front engine timing cover to access the cam gears.

Is this a common problem for the 06? Seems like most people that have this issue is owners with 06 is350.
