Default TPMS -- What does it actually do on OUR car?

I know what they are... but it really sucks that they don't give individual pressure read outs on the cluster gauge. Considering this is a Lexus... pretty sad.

Anyway, the other day, I ran over a plank or something which caused a puncture on the side wall of my front left tire. To my surprise, I only saw my check engine light (the one on the bottom right-most corner) turn on. Nothing about tire pressure issue...

So my question is... when does the TPMS warn us of low tire pressure... if it does that at all?

Tire Pressure Monitoring System. All it does is say some tire has low air. Mine went on yesterday. I checked all tires and filled them. Light went off. Better than nothing.

It is what it is.

Yeah it is a shame that the car won't tell you the actual psi in the tire, but the car did come out originally in 2005. Hopefully the 3IS has this feature

That's the thing... my tire had NO pressure. The only indicator that went off was an ambiguous icon on the cluster.

Check engine light is bottom LEFT and bottom right will come on simultaneously which is VSC. Your VSC light came on, probably because you lost proper pressure (pressure of the car on the road, not air pressure) on that corner of the vehicle with no pressure. They did their job I'd say.

Because of the fluctuating weather temps, my sensor comes on and off. A quick trip on the fwy and it goes away.

TPMS became standard on all cars after 200X because of the incident with the Ford Explorers having tire blowouts, thanks to owners that don't check the air in their tires and something to due with Firestone tires too.

They (TPMS) go off when it goes below a certain PSI, I assume. When that happens, I usually just top them off and use the < O > to the left of the steering wheel to make the light go away.

I would much rather go without them. I mean, what did the previous generations of car owners do without them? Technology in vehicles just makes drivers more complacent.

anyone know the exact PSI the TPMS goes off at?

I release too much air out of my tire once and went to around 30 psi, and my TPMS didn't go off.

Ya, and people died. Drivers aren't complacent, they've down-right lazy and stupid. Any technology that can save other people on the road is a good thing™.
