Default 30,000 mile schedule maintenance question

I have read so far that the only things that are needed are to flush your brake fluid, change your engine and cabin air filters, and get an oil change. I have also read on the site that its pretty expensive, (I got quoted $520), so most CL'ers suggest doing the filters yourself, (which is what I will be doing), and having a local shop flush the brakes. My question is: Lexus also told me that I need to have my fuel injectors cleaned. Is this something I need to have done? I haven't heard or read anything about it. Thanks from a long time DIY'er, but Lexus Noob.

For future reference, never ask for the X mile service. They will overcharge you like crazy.

Now as far as cleaning the fuel injectors, did you take your car in, ask for the 30k serivce, and then they told you about this?

Because as far as I know, its not listed in the manual as something that needs to be addressed at 30k miles

That is exactly what I did. This is before reading up on it on Club Lexus.

You don't need your fuel injectors cleaned - that's just typical "dealership add-on/recommended" service. It's just something individual dealerships recommend sometimes. A lot of people think these services are actually recommended by the manufacturer and end up paying for the services. "Fuel Injector cleaning" is likely nothing more than pouring a bottle of fuel injector cleaner into the gas tank. Skip it

Well, it looks like I am going to cancel my reservation for this friday and just go to a local shop to flush my brakes. Thanks.

My 30k service was 300.00. They recommended the fuel inj cleaning which i denied. I make sure to have my major services done at the dealer so it will be on the service records for the vehicle.

$50 oil change, $100 brake fluid change... what did you spend the other $150 on?

Probably excessive, I agree, but when I go to trade the car in for another Lexus, I want all the services to show up on their database, done by them... more wiggle room for trade-in value.

Meh... I used to do all my own vehicle servicing when I used to race. Hate crawling under cars now, and I don't generally trust independent mechanics.

You paid $9.99 for a $1 key fob battery dude... I understand there's some value to dealer-maintained records but that's just silly. (that's apart from how much you overpaid for the cabin and air filters which also don't require getting under the car at all).

At 30k if someone wants records by all means pay $150 for oil and brake fluid changes, but paying $150 for the rest is just lighting fire to money.

(arguably trading the car in rather than private party sale is too, but that's a whole other topic)

Yeah I agree with the battery switch thing. Future maintenance trips that won't be done. I can do the battery myself.
