Replaced HID D4S. Very Dim!
 

A few months back, I purchased a set of "6K" D4S Replacement Bulbs from eBay(I'm sure that explains it all). After installation, everything went smoothly, color is great, but its no where near as bright as my factory bulbs. Considering its an aftermarket, and probably low quality bulb hence the fact its from eBay, I'd expect a bit less brightness. But these are extremely dim. I've compared to other friends IS250's which used the H11 Kits for their's and there is still a significant difference in brightness. Is this a common issue with eBay Bulbs? Should i expect a change in brightness if i get a set installed at a local shop? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks!

HIDs are normally hit or miss from ebay. Mind sharing the link or how much you paid?

Installation shouldnt be an issue with bulb brightness. Dont ever pay someone else to install HIDs for you, its too simple

Yeah i installed them myself as it was extremely simple. I paid $35 for the set. I guess its one of those "you get what you pay for" items -__- Just hoping i get better brightness from a set at a local shop.

Buy from our vendors here on the forum so you know your getting a quality product

to the OP, you got suckered into the following myth: the higher the color temperature, the brighter the bulb is.

fact is, the color temperature with the most light output is 3000k, which is a pure yellow. unfortunately, since that is absolutely blinding from a color and light output standpoint, OEM D4S bulbs are rated at 4100k, which is a white w/ a hint of yellow - 9/10's as bright, without the blinding color.

many run 6000k for a good mix of color temperature and light output. downside is 6000k does not have as much light output as 4100k. that's what you're currently experiencing.

what will also contribute to poor light output is a bulb w/ inferior components (in addition to the lense/reflector design), though more often than not it's the color temperature that affects light output.

Most likely a fake too.

Could of gotten a set of genuine Philips Ultinon 6000K from the the two CL vendors.

But that cost like $200!

But those are the legit japanese bulbs. Theyre not cheap
