2007 IS250 DVD Nav Update - DVD auto-ejects

Thanks in advance everyone.

So I just went to update my navigation system for the first time with the 2012 maps. When I inserted the dvd, it would spin for 3-4 seconds and then auto-eject it back out.

It is a legitimate upgrade dvd, AND just to be sure it wasn't a problem with the new disc, I tried to put the old dvd back in and get the same problem; it spins and spits back out as well.

I would truly appreciate anyone's ideas as now I have NO navigation. 2006 maps were better than nothing.

Obviously that shouldn't happen. I'd make sure the discs are clean, and I'd disconnect the battery for 15 minutes or so to see if that cures the problem. If not I think your read head on the player is out of sync.

I thought the 2012 had the hard drive based navigation system, and it could only be dealer updated.

well that is the hard drive NAV unit, but his car is 07 has the disk map, I don't think it should be a problem? maybe they sent him the gen4 disk? instead of the gen5 disk for his car

If it's not even reading the old disc now it sounds like it might be a hardware problem. Take it to the dealership.

Makes me fearful to try out my dealership's offer ($129) on getting a discounted 2012 NAV disk. Hmmmmmm, in for a fix!

Wait so, previously your old disc was working...then you tried the new disc and it spit it out, and now not even the old disc works??

Yeah, that is exactly right (sorry for the delay, I didn't get a notification the thread had gotten responses!)

I am going to buy one of those DVD lens cleaner discs on amazon (as a last resort before the dealership), based on article on how to fix stand-alone dvd players with the same issue. Ill update with whether that helps

Its very strange, at one point, I actually got the new map to load for about 2 seconds, it positioned me correctly, and then spit the DVD out again. Very frustrating.

I just updated my Nav to 12.1 and thankfully did not have this issue. However, the parts guy at Lexus of Wayzata told me that when you update the map, you will no longer be able to use your old map. For example, mine was 6.1 and I updated it to 12.1, so now I cannot use 6.1 again. Not that I would want to but it is worth noting.

I wonder if your new map was loading for a brief period and something went wrong and now you cannot use your old map. It may be an issue with the new dvd but it may also mean you cannot use the old one either since there may be a file or two from the new dvd loaded.

Hope you get it solved without costing too much.

Interesting, thanks for the info.

That seems like it could be a possibility. The only reason I'm not sure that that is the problem is because its not giving an error or anything (for either disc), it just ejects them (although I am not sure if the unit would even be set up to display an error or not).

If the lens cleaner doesn't work I'll have to see what the dealership says. Something tells me it will be very very expensive if the whole dvd drive needs to be replaced. At that point I guess I'm stuck using my phone.

Lens cleaning DVD didn't work. Next step dealership unless anyone has other ideas to try

Anytime you update your navigation disc, try to leave the engine running/idling so your battery does not go low and kill the uploading mode on update.

Does updating to a newer version of the nav DVD change the look of the interface. I'm fearful in updating my nav from the '06 original to ver 14.1 DVD will change to the fugly look of the newer Lexus nav systems.
