Default How to lock your car while running to warm it up during the winter.

Notice: This is not for the good of your car, it's more if you just want to turn the heat on go back inside and have a warmed up car when you get back.

In some of our neighbor hoods its a big deal to leave the car running, doors unlocked and go back inside while it warms up the inside/defrosts.

I just wanted to pass along that if you take one of your key fobs, use it to start the car, leave it inside the car and then exit the car pressing lock on the second one, the car will lock.

I'm going to be using that trick this winter for sure!

Two reasons:
- Over all the years of remote car starters I've had, they are almost always a pain and don't work 100% all the time.

- Money.

Nice! But i'll never leave a key fob in the car for any reason. Too risky lol
Have you tried putting the 2nd key fob away and seeing if you can still unlock the car from the outside with the key fob inside?

Knowing me i'll end up losing one too

Tooooo risky. Considering if anyone know how to use a key fob, they will know that beeping sound.

your bad experience with remote starters is due to poor installation for sure! in the past 3 years i have not had a single issue with the 600 plus units i installed. just saying.....

Do you really think that someone wouldn't smash the window? They'll smash your window to take a Garmin--they will definitely do it to get the entire car...

If they want your car that bad they will get it even with you inside of it. This is great for warming up the car, i used to start the car and then lock it with the physical key, but the stupid keyhole cover clips kept breaking off so i just stopped doing it. Its stupid that you can't lock the car with the keyfob after its started and the keyfob is out of the cars range, must be some sort of safety feature, like our windows that don't roll up.

You can get a ticket for that in Seattle, maybe its state wide not sure. Seattle fuzz had a purge last winter, which was one of our worst for years. Not sure if its a safety issue, theft but you can be ticketed.
