Just to share my experience with 07 IS250.
Car started in the morning from 5th attempt. O'Reilly shop found code P0305 with check Engine and VSC lights on:Cylinder 5 misfire detected. Disconnected battery and code gone. Car had no problem that day. Called Lexus next day and Tech said even code is gone they can diagnose. Check internet and found this is Lexus defect (Carbon Build up CSP) and will be covered completely free by Lexus even all warranty is gone but Lexus must give authorization. It took half a day before I had phone call telling good news. Car is in shop and it might take few days to repair so I will keep loaner. Hope it will never come back. Of course advisor asking me to do some extra like lets change oil and change differential fluid : you know. So you have to little push in Lexus shop showing confidence of Lexus to take care of problem.

Your dealership makes me nervous. Oil and filter change should be included as part of the CSP. They would also be flushing the coolant (since it's drained). My dealership also changed the water pump for free as well (this varies by dealer based on some other members post). Only thing you may consider paying out of pocket is replacing spark plugs if you're not DIY type and if it needs replacing soon. They should only charge you for the part cost only (labor is included as part of CSP since they have to pull the spark plugs).

Here's the 2007 IS250 parts list when I got my CSP done with no out of pocket cost on my part (didn't do the spark plugs since I did it on my own and it's not due for replacement for another 25K miles). I also added MSRP and online unit prices for your reference (I just wanted to see how much it would cost if I had to pay. I estimated $3K+ for parts and $3K+ for labor or total of $6K+.

One* 04111-31B40 Gasket Kit* $491.68* ($449.81) each
One* 13011-31220 Ring Set, Piston $404.76 ($370.29) each
Two* 13301-31020-A0 Piston Sub-Assy *$245.60 ($224.68) each
One* 13301-31020-B0 Piston Sub-Assy $245.60 ($224.68) each
Three* 13101-31050-B0 Piston Sub-Assy $245.60 ($224.68) each
One 04152-YZZA9 Replaceable Element $6.48 ($5.84) each
Seven 00279-1QT5W-01 OIL Motor 5w30 QT $4.41 ($4.41) each
Two 00295-00103 FIPG OIL PAN $15.59 ($11.69) each
Three 00272-SLLC2 Super Long Life Coolant $25.94 ($23.31) each
Three AR2 Parts Cleaner
One 16100-39436 Pump Assy, Water $258.56 ($232.23) each

If you want this done, do you just request it from lexus or do they actually have to test from it. Im pretty sure I have it because after I get done driving and ive been flooring it my car smells horrible. Please let me know asap as I plan to take it in for service this weekend. thanks

Just came back from dealer. They put me on the oil consumption test and told me to report back every 2000km.

If your car has ever came very close to an engine stall while at idle and/or the RPMs dip below normal, there should be a stored code the dealer will check for. Chances are you need it.

Is it too soon to tell if Lexus's "fixed pistons" actually fixed the problem?

I have 121k miles on my 2010 (bought her new)--one of the last 2010's built that unfortunately is outside of the VIN range for the carbon TSB.

Starting at about 90k I noticed that at a stoplight the RPMs dropped from the normal 700 down to about 400, then shot up to about 1200 and instantly back to normal 700. Dealer ran the test and it passed.

It is now happening about 1-2 times per month. NO other issues or symptoms. I visit the dealer at least every 5k miles for an oil change.

There aren't many high-mileage 2010 1/2+ IS's on the road yet....

Dealer said he has had people bring their cars in and they had to run it 3-4 times over a 3-12 month period to get it to fail the test so Lexus could replace it.

This could be interesting....and I will definitely keep y'all posted on what happens.

I drive about 30k/yr for work and planned on keeping this until it hit 250k....now I'm getting scared it may not last that long.....and it will be paid off in 5 months.....ugh....

I dropped my 2007 is250 off at the dealer on Saturday. Car has been feeling like it's going to stall at stoplights and had check VSC warning light, traction control, abs and emergency brake lights on. All the lights turned off before I could get it Lexus. They claim they can't get it to duplicate the problem and it isn't showing any stored codes. Any suggestions on what I can do to get this fixed?

You should ask the dealer. Supposedly, they can do some testing to determine if Carbon Build Up is an issue....although I'm somewhat skeptical that the dealer couldn't find the error codes stored based on your description.

Got my car checked at the dealership because the idle was dropping when I come to a stop. I am also getting poor gas mileage and my engine seems to be consuming oil. The dealership ran some test and said that they could not duplicate the problem so they can not do anything about it, but to bring it back if it does it again. My problem is that my car is still having the idle drop every now and then when coming to a stop. Has anyone been able to talk to Lexus about this because I have a feeling that if i bring it back they will just tell me the same thing?

Good news for you! I got the total runaround from my dealer and from Lexus Corporate, too. Corp told me no recall exists despite what I've been hearing. And since the car dumps the codes, they never find anything when I bring the car in. I'd have to be lucky enough to get to the dealer when the dashboard is all lit up so that they can plug in, they tell me.. The will NOT take my word for it –*even a snapshot of the dashboard won't work unless the codes are readable from the car. Even got signed an official "case manager" from Lexus. An awful and passive aggressive personality. I've been professional and mannerly every step of the way. Their ace in the hole is that the CPU in the car does NOT record the codes for them to download. Or, at least that's what they're telling me.

Next time it happens to you, go. If there are NO codes present, there's a misfire monitor that tracks your last 40 ignition cycles. Even so, INSIST that they keep it overnight and try again the next day.
There is a SPECIFIC test to see if it will miss, and when it does it typically has multiple misfires.
All that data has to be submitted for approval before a dealer gets the OK.

I'm in the middle of doing one now, I will take before and after pictures. Especially the intake valves

Look they can't just perform the CSP because you have a picture of a check engine light, it needs to be verified. Also it is NOT a recall. No recall exists for this, just a service campaign.
Like I said before, misfiring or not there's prob 'history' codes. If not the misfire monitor will prob have it recorded. IF NOT you can still perform the test to MAKE IT misfire...

Default Big Problem with my 2006 IS 250

Been reading TOO much online about this CSP letter that most people received.. I am a second owner of a 2006 IS 250 who is aware and has experienced the idling and sudden hic-ups of the engine. Due to my car's milage(109XXX), it was time for me to get my water pumps replaced at a local lexus specialist in San Diego called TLC auto care. They did a great job with the replacement and the price was very fair ($595), however, when I got the car back the check engine light, VSC, and traction control light was ALL ON. I called them back right away and they informed me about an engine mis-fire code P0305 regarding a misfire on my 5th piston. Problem is, I never received the CSP letter AND my car is out of the 9 year warranty time; I AM OUT OF TIME! Is there anyway Lexus will still repair my car? Im taking it down to the dealership on Monday regarding the last two recalls (Potential Fuel Leak, and Windshield wiper malfunction) and they told me they need to see the car to see if I "qualify" for this repair. Is there anyway to get rid of those lights on my dash?!?!?!?! Please let me know asap this is a huge burden for a broke college student who chose the wrong used car......

Which San Diego dealer are you taking it to?
I've had pretty good luck with Lexus San Diego in terms of working with Lexus Corporate to cover these type of costs.

You can also register as Lexus Owners to see if you under the CSP. You do not need the letter. If your VIN is within the range of CSP and you fall under 9 years from purchase date, you are covered along as it fits in their carbon build up criteria. If you are outside of 9 years, Lexus Corporate may still cover as goodwill but it is at their discretion.
