I sold my '08 on eBay last year and got $50.00 for it. I may try that again. Only thing is, the selling costs and postage ate a lot of that up, so maybe $40.00 is not so bad

That's interesting. The update (purchased from Sewell) is described as "designed for one time use" implying that it can't be used again. Can it be used over and over?

^^^^It's a DVD. It's copyrighted, but, I own it, and I can sell it. I just can't duplicate it. It can be used in any compatible navigation system if moved from car to car.

No, it's one time use only. The information on the USB is probably wiped and all its good for using it like a regular USB stick.

I looked into this while haggling for my CPO which I got last Friday. Dealer wouldn't give in, so I put it off. They did do a bunch of stuff and am happy with the car. I decided that the '13 update is coming out in a few months anyway , so I will just wait for it. Now I have a really stupid question. How do I check what version map / system is in there? I can't find it in the manual or on the system itself. Searched the forums for a bit and came up with nothing. I have a 2010 with the HD version updated via a USB Dongle.

TIA

Duh, I found it on the info screen. Now why does that screen have a map update button that seems to imply that you simply plug in the device and click on the button. I clicked it to see what would happen and it said connection error (predictably). I hear the dealer can charge a half hour to two hours labor for this service.

If your unit is "up to date" software wise, it is a very simple update. If not it can be a real pain for them. Like you I would not buy my CPO without the 12.1 update. The first time it took them about 3 hours. Error after error after error. I guess then someone read the TSB I traded that 2010 250c in for a 2010 350c and that was updated in ½ hour.

Good luck, I too am looking forward to getting new maps for the Bay Area, lots has changed since the last maps.

The dealer charged me $120 to do the install.

Even though the screen makes it look like you can plug in the USB and upgrade it yourself, you can't. The dealer has to do it

They are charging me $308 to do it (including tax). Sounds about right since the upgrade is $169 from Lexus. I have the original map in there which is a v9. I have a long drive coming up and am debating having a backup portable GPS handy and just getting it done, but then there's a new one coming out in the fall, four short months away...

Hi! Is the 12.1 the latest version of the maps? In one of the above links, the IS 250 2010-2013 shows that the latest update was 10.1 to 11.1. Also trying to buy a CPO and would like them to update it to the latest maps. Thank you!!
