I've got a question, the dealer is recommending me to do 50K service... but I'm 8k miles away from 60K. What's the different between 50K and 60K service? Should I take my car to dealer for 50K service now and do another 60K service when I hit 60K miles? or I just don't bother the 50K and wait until the 60K miles?
Any input would be greatly appreciate!!
Thanks

Jason

Jason:

You can do the 50k yourself. Go to an independent mechanic (like I did) and have the oil changed. You can do the rest of the 50k yourself, inspect brakes, change A/C filter, rotate tires and you are done. If you are handy you can do the 60k too. I did not want to mess with the plugs as they appear to be a PITA in the IS250. So I paid Pratt to do the labor.

I had the plugs changed at 60K along with a bunch of other stuff. I saved a ton by using the Costco auto program. Participating dealers give you 15% off parts & labor.

I paid for only parts. Got the labor done free during the carbon build up piston replacement!

All the 60k service you can do yourself. I just did most of mine, (replaced air filter, bled and changed the brake fluid, cleaned MAF sensor, oil change, new tires, and changed plugs). The toughest thing was the plugs, but it was worth saving the money on it. Paid 88 bucks shipped for all 6 plugs off of sewell and the job to do was less than two hours and I'm not very savy.

There's a DIY for everything here on the forum which I used when servicing my car. Nothing is too terribly difficult to do!

How much and what brand are the plugs? Is it only from the dealer. I'm just waiting for pistons to come in and I'm at 59k.
