Between '99-'03 I drove cross country from FL to OR in a '95 Ford Escort back and forth a total of 9 trips (~3300 miles one way). Only encountered one problem with wheel studs when a tire place over-torqued my wheels on. One stud/lug nut sheered off out of 4. With that said, I never once worried about my long trips because I took care of my car with the normal routine maintenance. As long as you've taken care of it you will be fine. I hope you have money cause there is no work in ft meyers and its pretty much redneck land especially coming from queens! Good luck with the move tho....
