plasti dipped my front grill/ and de badged my 08 IS250

i took some suggustions and painted my chrome grilles on the front of my IS/250.

i used the plastidip product with the plastidip gloss as well. i liked it with the chrome before and i also like this too! so whatcha think now? and i also de badged the rear, to fill the little holes left over i just cut out some black vinyl circles and just covered the lil holes, u could harldy tell it is there. first pic is before and then new look.

It definitely looks better

I plastidipped all my emblems, the grill too and painted my exhaust. I had the rear emblems shaved though.

the black emblem looks good with the cars color! i wonder how the plastidip will hold up to car washes? lets see the grille please

MashinA 07-13-12 08:50 PM

can u post some better close ups of the grille. i was thinking to do the glossy plastidip finish on mine to see if i like it before i paint it permanently.
also where did you buy the supplies?

linus73 07-13-12 09:02 PM

how much closer? and bought supplies on ebay. this is not a permant fix! you can take off the plastidip anytime you want and itwill not affect the original look prior to plastidiping. and also , the plastidip gloss is not a real gllossy look. i sprayed the gloss in 3 coats and it still does not shine like i wanted. maby if it ever peels ill just have it painted with car paint.

Here's the best picture I have of mine (the wheels are also plastidipped):

very nice! how is the product holding up to cawashes? any chips or peel spots on it aywhere from rocks or car washes? i always like how the black and siver goes well with each other! now a few spoilers here and there and she"ll look even better.

carlos 07-13-12 09:22 PM

The dip has been done for about 3 months and in that time, the car has been washed once. Sad, I know. It was washed by hand at a car wash place and it's been on 100+ mile trips and so far, so good. Up next is the chrome trim around the windows.

linus73 07-13-12 09:30 PM

ok thanks for the feedback. its funny that i am trying to add chrome accents(door handle covers) and you are covering the chrome up! lol i wonder how it would look if you blacked the door handles? and i also say whatever you do to your car that u like, then thats all that matters. your car is coming along nicely!

p0lo8 07-13-12 09:41 PM

definitely looks better

MashinA 07-13-12 11:19 PM

best i can do with my phone camera. it has some dust on it from sitting in my garage. so pay no attention to that.

carlos 07-14-12 03:13 PM

FYI if you want the finish to be smoother, you can do 2 really light coats and the 3rd one real thick. It worked for me.

MashinA 07-14-12 03:53 PM

Think ill try it on the stock grille. Thx for the pics.

carlos 07-14-12 04:22 PM

Let me be more specific... When I say thick, I mean to the point it looks wet.

Is rubbing alcohol necessary before plasti-dipping wheels?

2jzism 07-17-12 04:04 AM

it looks much better in black

it couldnt hurt to just use it! the rubbing alcohol will get any residue, grease, dust..e.t.c...and so on.
this way it will stick better and hold up longer if you do. and the more coats you use the more easily it will be to remove later on if needed.

bob4256 07-17-12 08:02 AM

Looks so much better plastidipped!
