I personally have not tried it, but I know BG44K works wonders based on my friends experiences. I'm sure if you did it right, it might help with the carbon build up. Simply pouring it into the gas tank won't do a thing though....you'd have to feed it in via the motor itself.

Had the cam gears replaced 3 weeks ago....out of pocket @ cost of $1,600 (sucked), 2 days ago I got the check engine, VSC and traction light, took her in and they said it was the carbon buildup issue. I've got an '07 with 82k miles on it. Disappointed at the problem for sure....it's a ridiculous problem to have. I've never put anything but 91 or higher in it and have meticulously maintained it. The good news is that the dealer is covering the lower engine replacement ($6,000!!!!!!!!!) to fix the issue, but they have such a backlog of fixing this for IS 250s in Austin, TX, I'm looking at 5-6 weeks before I get my car back.
Lexus is looking at a lot of folks flooding back into dealer soon with '06-'09 IS 250s, so I too am of the mindset that a full recall is coming soon. I'm 12k miles over the 70k warranty and they didn't even hesitate to say they'd cover the $6k repair cost. The carbon buildup issue is a lawsuit waiting to happen when someone wrecks their car and hurts someone because of stalling and whatnot. Their bean counters are finally making them aware of this, which usually takes a few years before they have enough data to start really crunching the numbers.
