Yes, the carbon build up DOES cause misfiring.
It's one of the requirements/symptoms under the TSIB. A misfire code must be present.

Yes, carbon on your valves can cause misfiring. My MINI had it done due to these cars having excess buildup as well. BMW/MINI does a Walnut blast...they shoot crushed up walnut shells into the valves to clean them. They charge about 400.00 to do it. Not sure how Lexus does their carbon buildup cleaning.
But to answer the question, YES carbon buildup will cause misfiring, usually when the engine is cold. Once it comes up to temp, it tends to settle down.

So got the call today about my Lexus to pick it up and went to pick it up and they told me they changed the short block and they rebuilt the cylinder head and they told me it was caused by carbon buildup and that it got bad in the block that it scored the walls of the block so they had to replace the short block but got my car back and they didn't even put gas in it and washed it..dropped car off to them. With a full tank of gas and now it's under half tank...and they did the recall for the fuel pressure and carpet so suppose to at least wash my damn car..o wells..Really happy though no sound from engine and no cel light they even had to swap out my battery now time to get some suspension and drop it what kind suspension do u guys recommend for the rwd 09 is250 let me know mahalo thanks for the help guys really appreciate it.
