Default Tire Wear

I have an 09 is250 awd and my tire wear is off. It is more bald on the outside on the left side and on the right side it is more bald on the inside. What can this be and what should I do to fix it?

sounds like you need a 4 wheel alignment to see if your toe, camber and caster are off. Anywhere from $80 to $150. Also check tire pressure.

So that is the first thing I have to do? Nothing else?

Thant the first thing I would do. I don't think you need camber and toe arms. Is your car really low?

Tire wear on the edges is almost always the camber setting. If you had wear on inside and outside edges, that would indicate that your tires were under-inflated, but then your TPMS light would be on. Having wear on an outside edge means that you are cambered out while inside would be cambered in (- and + camber). Very unusual for you to show camber wear on the outside edge as camber issues usually show up on the inside edge. Regardless, you should definitely get it aligned or at least have the alignment checked.

Easy explanation is that camber being correct means that the center line of the tire (viewed from front or rear) is perfectly perpendicular to the surface of the road. The toe setting being correct means that the tires are perfectly parallel to each other. Toe in would be like being pigeon toed (lame but easy to understand). Caster is less of an issue and has to do with the wheel (from the side of the car) being in in the center line of the steering axis in relation to the location of the spindle and the lower ball joint. While caster will affect driving feel, it will not affect tire wear.

I will most likely get flamed for this, but I would look at getting the alignment done at a Firestone. They have a lifetime alignment deal for about $190, you can find discount coupons online to save 10% - 15% off of that price. The lifetime deal gives you 4 wheel alignments for as long as you own the car. I have had three alignments done already.

Why would you get flamed for it? I have had plenty of my friends with many upgrades come to the local firestone because they have the lifetime deal. I think its worth it, unless you want to do it by bear alignment thats not bad for the price. And it depends where you go but ask around, the local one where my friends go to in Lake Forest, CA have done many upgraded car alignments, mainly high end cars like bmw, audi, lexus... etc.

Just so i can understand this correctly as far as air pressure goes:

My winter tires had the following wear when i took them off this spring.

Front tires both had wear on the inside edges - this means they were over or under inflated?
Rear tires had major wear just on the center of the tread patter - is this caused my over inflation?

In the picture the tire on the left has the wear in the center. The tire on the right has wear on the right edge of the tire( was on the inside when mounted).

Thanks

The one on the left was over-inflated As u can see that it was wearing out in the middle. The one on the right looks like overall wear is ok but because it was wearing on the inside could mean you need an aligment or you made a lot of either sharp or turns at fast speed turns. Typically the front has a little bit of negative camber.

I have this on my S2000 - I will get it on the IS when I get one done. It is worth the money.

Plenty of people do the lifetime alignment at firestone. Especially here in SoCal go for it

Since you are considering an alignment, you may want to consider putting on FIGS bushings. The reason is under the braking, the stock bushings deflect to too much which causes the excessive inner wear.
