Post Dealer free oil change question..

I got a coupon from Lexus corporate to get a free oil change. I have a 2007 IS250 that takes standard oil, I have about 60K on it and I wanna start running full synthtic...will the coupon I have cover it or will I have to pay extra, if so how much? I live in Houston Texas. Dealer is Sterling McCall Lexus (don't like them).

Also how long can I run synthetic with the OEM filter?

What does the fine print on the coupon say? I would assume it covers synthetic oil since that's the standard oil they use to change at Lexus dealers for IS's. Better yet, just give them a call and ask them to make sure.

I think you can safely run the synthetic oil for 10k miles, but you should change the filter every 5k.

Thee is no fine print, it's just a letter from Custumer Satisfaction saying this offer gives one free oil change for only my car and has to be done by a dealer, no expiration or anything.

I know for sure they are not. One time I got a Oil Change at the dealer and on the receipt I entered the part number and t came up as some cheap Valvoline oil.. Maybe it's just my dealer?

You have to request for full synthetic, otherwise they don't.

My dealer says the 2011 IS250's came synthetic, but the 350's like mine were mineral oil. I am due for my first oil change next month (which is free at the dealership) and I was told it is $40 extra to do synthetic.

I will be running 10k oil changes with synthetic (and same filter).

Wow answers are all over the place

Since you have a 2007 IS250, they will put regular dino or synthetic "blend" oil in. If you want to run a full synthetic, you will have to pay the price difference between what they usually use and the synthetic oil. Around here, that's about $25-30 at the dealer for the difference. It depends on how much your local dealership charges though for upgrading. The only way to know for sure is to call and ask how much it would be.

You can run synthetic oil for quite a while (tests have proven its fine up to 15k+), but you will need to replace the filter at around 7,500 miles if you want to run it that long.

kind of a tangent, but do the 2011+ use the same oil filter element as the 2006-2010? if so, does that mean the oil filter is good for 10k intervals?

I have had two dealerships adamantly tell me that they do not do the first oil change before 10K. Mine is a 2011, now at 15 months, with 5500mi. I have twice requested oil changes with the standard services, and last time explained that I drive short distances and the car does not always get a chance to warm up (this is horrible for engines). I also added that the service book says 10K OR 1 year requires oil change. Dealer told me not before 10K...

I know that the two free services you get when you buy the car expire after 18 months, so you better believe at 18 months I'm going to be screaming bloody murder to have that oil changed.

This is a leased vehicle, so it's technically THEIR car....

I had the free oil changed at the dealer when I bought the car.
The dealership put 10W-30 oil in the car during winter time here which it was around 15F.
It just made me think the dealership dump the oil they do not use for free oil change.
When I paid for the oil change, they added 5W-30.
