Default Sadness...missing wheel lock

Well I was all excited to put some new wheels on and install my Road Magnet springs today on my 07 250 AWD...but when I got my car on the lift and noticed the wheel locks I scratched my head. I remember the dealership showing me the tool kit saying that the key was in there (the only time I took their word for it) so I opened it up and like freakin magic, it wasn't there. I tried to improvise with 3 different lock keys to no avail. Bummer. Luckily the registration card was with the manual, so I just dropped that in the mail today. Now I wait. Stupid dealership.

I agree. Break it off and get a new set of lug nuts.

Lol. Yah waiting always sucks... Or you could take it to the dealer and have them remove the locks for you. They did that for me when my original locks broke.

Do like the thieves do and hammer a socket onto the lug and take it off. Locking lugs do no good for a real thief.

I took it to the dealership and they wanted 60 bucks. I'm not too keen on paying dealerships anymore than what I have already given so that was a no go. The replacement lock is 15 bucks and about a week of waiting...probably the most agonizing option. I could bust it off but I am trying to be nice to my Lexus. It is my first luxury brand!

So you loose $45. Big deal. Gotta to play NOW! Or wait a week. You could go to another wheel shop.

The garage I was using isn't open on Sunday so pretty much either way I was up s*** creek. Id try it in my parking garage but no joke, there is not one level floor in the entire place! This is my first time living in a city and when it comes to wrenching on your ride it pretty much sucks. Ill just consume a ridiculous amount of beer so that the week goes by quick.

The dealership should have a repalcement key. I lost mine, and went to the dealership and they pulled out a like a ton of different keys to try out, matched mine and sold me the replacmeent key for $30.

^^^ They usually have different patterns. I think it was a good coincidence that you and your friend had the same pattern . But it would be a good idea to try. When a customer asks to purchase a wheel lock key, we have to take 8 or 10 different ones out to their car to match them and sell them the correct one.

I'm surprised they didn't have extra wheel lock keys to use. All technicians have a master set at the service department I work at, and we never borrow a customer's unless it has aftermarket wheel locks. Normally we sell wheel lock keys by themselves for $21.00, and sounds like they were trying to sell you the wheel lock key and wheel lock set for $60.00.
