Relatively speaking, why is the IS 250 so slow?

It would be even less of a deal if you simply skipped ALL of the maintenance that is recommended every 5K miles, but I wouldn't do that, either.
Comparing factory maintenance performed by an authorized dealer to "selected" DIY maintenance might not be the best way to get to a truel value of the factory maintenance for everyone.

Versus the many thousands more the BMW costs to get that same service 'free'
(though I agree 5k is too often to change your oil on the 2IS- every UOA anyone has ever posted here has shown that 7500-10k is closer to right for even conventional oil... but that's another thread )

Just got the motortrend magazine yesterday for this month and they have some really good comparisons of the is 250 vs other 5 or 6 different companies same range models. BMW is in on there as well including VW, infinity ect. Check it out! Def on topic of this forum.

Slow is an understatement yes for the IS250...I will agree because I have one but at the same end mycuz has a 328 and we drive each other cars...I like his speed however the Lexus is nicer inside appearance, outside style, and gets cuter girls....lol we have tested lol....Gas mileage is strange bec usually the inline 6 gives worse than the V6 but then again the one you are looking into is a 4 cylinder turbo so it's going to burn better...

Yeah, that is right. The 328i is faster and use less fuel because it is a v4 with turbo while IS250 is just v6 without turbo.
However, you also miss one thing:
Number of break down and repairs (the LESS the BETTER):
IS250: 1x
328i: 10x
Cost of maintenance (the LESS the BETTER):
IS250: 1x
328i: 10x

Not trying to bash the car or anything, I am quite interested in buying one (right now I'm deciding between the 2012 328i and IS 250)
The biggest problem I seem to have with the IS 250 is the fact that not only is it a hell of a lot slower than the 2012 328i, but it also consumes more fuel. (see below for statistics)
Could someone possibly give me an explanation as to why this is? I am pretty uneducated about cars and i would have thought that fuel economy and acceleration would have had an inverted relationship, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
0 to 60/quarter mile times
IS 250: 7.5/15.7
328i: 5.9/14.1
MPG City/Highway
IS 250:21/30
328i: 24/36
TL;DR: The IS 250 is slower and uses more fuel, what gives?

If your looking for performance, the is250 is not the car for you, it's just nice to look at, you won't even keep up with a civic si, they will destroy you and make you look like a Prius, BMW will out perform lexus everyday of the week, but in looks it is very easy to make the is250 look like a beautiful machine with little money. Suspension and wheels and the lexus will look like a monster. I love the new is as well, in looks, to bad its as slow as a Prius I really wanted one

Well V6 engines were adopted by many luxury brands because they are have a smooth/consistent power output as well as less vibration compared to its 4 cyl, I6, and 8 cyl counterparts. V6 engines are slowly being phased out by 4cyl turbo for economy/maintence and 8 cyl for performance. I actually hope lexus keeps the v6 engine in the IS (even though its been confirmed they wont) because people will complain about how loud and raspy a 4cyl turbo can sound compared to the v6.

Like redspencer spotted, I also just notice couple things that are quite interesting:
1. You just recently joined the forum
2. Your screen name already tells you bash the IS with "iSLOW250"
3. Your first 2 posts are already bashing the IS.
I think i can safely assume that you dislike the IS and you don't even lease or own one IS. If you don't even drive this car, you should not comment on this car not to mention bashing how slow it is.
For your information, a fully loaded 328i cost equally if not higher than fully loaded IS350 and the IS350 DESTROY 328i so if speed is the matter, why would anyone pay for the slow 328i when it costs the same as the faster IS350. IS350 destroys 328i in every way from look, reliability, to speed every way every time.
